SougarLord Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Surprising success of NVIDIA's CMP line NVIDIA's CMP lineup is made up of four card models that share some similarities to existing and past GeForce generations of Nvidia. They do not have any video output so they are not exactly useful for playing video games, and they are more expensive than normal ones. But that does not prevent the miners are taking them in masses. A major group of cryptocurrency miners recently placed an order worth millions of dollars for a shipment of CMP GPUs. This move alone accounts for much of the revenue for this NVIDIA division. The order value causes the Ampere and Turing chips to sell for thousands of dollars in the face of such demand. But that matters little to miners because some of the mining operations increasingly demand higher hash rates and the value of cryptocurrencies increases. Nvidia can meet the demand, but does not believe that it can supply the rest of the sectors throughout this year. They could increase the supply, but they do not want to encounter the situation in 2018 where they had excess stock again.
