WilkerCSBD
The Municipality of Lima announced that, during the period of national emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus, there were the births of a vicuña baby, two of a lion monkey and one of a water buffalo, in the Parque de las Leyendas. The little vicuña (Vicugna vicugna) was born on March 28, in the place called Pampas Galeras, located in the Sierra area of this important center of entertainment and culture, which closed its doors to the public since the beginning of the quarantine decreed by the Government Central. Both mother and calf are in good health. The little vicuña is being fed and cared for by its mother at all times, which is favorable for its development. This birth is of the utmost importance for the Parque de las Leyendas, since the last of its kind occurred in 1996. Meanwhile, in the Selva area, the family of lion monkeys (Cebuella pygmaea) increased with the arrival of two young that were born on March 27. This species of monkey is considered the smallest in the world, weighing between approximately 100 and 120 grams. Gestation time is 135 days. The rearing of the lion monkeys is exclusive to the parents, who share the transfer of the young, from one place to another, during the day. Likewise, the family of water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), a species native to Asia, has a new member, who was born on March 16. This little one is in good health and is fed only breast milk. In total, the Parque de las Leyendas now has 21 buffaloes in the International zone. Sanitary controls The Municipality of Lima, from the beginning of the state of emergency, reinforced the cleaning and disinfection protocols in the personnel who take care of the animals of the Parque de las Leyendas. The use of gloves, a mask, soap and alcohol is mandatory for workers. It is also important to go through bleach foot baths, to disinfect footwear, before entering the animals' enclosures. It should be noted that the supply of food in the Parque de las Leyendas is carried out with total normality. The vehicles with the provisions enter very early, in normal hours, to proceed with the respective distribution. "The Municipality of Lima receives the news of these new births in the Parque de las Leyendas with excitement, as this shows that even in difficult times such as the current one it is possible to harbor hope and life. Furthermore, it reiterates its commitment to safeguard the well-being of the workers, animals, archaeological monuments and green areas of this important entertainment center of the city, "he said.
