Finally, with a delay of about six or eight months due to the pandemic, the fourth-generation SEAT León is already in our country and debuted with the right foot, the first pre-sale units were finished in a couple of hours. The expectation of the brand was that they would be finished after a week or so.

The Leon is very important for the brand (not for nothing have 2.2 million units been sold throughout its 3 previous iterations), we could say that it is the product that best defines it due to its purposeful design, the technology that it incorporates above all in terms of connectivity and infotainment and the driving dynamics it offers.

Although it plays in a category that no longer has the prominence that it once had, since both the number of participants and the volume have decreased a lot, at least for SEAT it is a very relevant model not only for positioning, but also for volume .

Its rivals are practically reduced, now that the Golf said goodbye to the Mexican market, the Mazda3 hatchback and the KIA Forte hatchback.

The first thing to say that the new SEAT León looks better in person than in photos or video, perhaps the elongated proportions do not do it justice in the images, but having it in front, believe me when I tell you, it looks very good.

It adopts the design language that we knew in the Tarraco, with a straighter front and trapezoidal grille, also the headlights are slimmer and elongated, although they maintain the triangular LED light signature, only now it is more stylized.

On the sides again we find those sharp ribs that gave so much character to the previous model, only now downwards they create concave surfaces that when impacted by moving lights create a very attractive effect.

The back has an LED light signature that the brand calls coast to coast and that goes from side to side, the visual effect is very pleasant. Oh and the rear turn signals turn on sequentially, it seems like a brushstroke every time it is turned on.

SEAT León 2021: engine
Under the hood we find the old known 1.4 TSI of 150 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, it is true that hearing that the new generation 1.5 did not arrive, the complaints were immediate. However, it is important to say that although the 1.4 is an engine that already has its years, this does not mean that it is an anachronistic or outdated power plant, on the contrary, it is still very current if we review the performance it delivers in all In the applications in which it is used, the balance between responsiveness and efficiency remains good.

If we add the new 8-speed automatic transmission to the above, we have that the SEAT León 2021 boasts a magnificent performance, we will already have the opportunity to do fuel efficiency tests, but I think it paints to lead the category.

Anyway, if you really consider that keeping the 1.4 is a deal breaker, I'm happy to inform you that they are scheduling the arrival of a 2.0-liter turbo block.

The MQB platform receives slight updates, now SEAT calls it MQB Evo and as for what I could perceive, the handling is excellent and it is quieter than before.

Inside doors we find a very attractive cabin, both by design and by perceived quality. The shapes are angular, while the combination of materials and textures is generally well done. There are some plastics under the dash and console that are hard to the touch, according to the segment, except for the Mazda3.

The seats are covered in fabric, but they have a very interesting three-dimensional diamond pattern, they look spectacular and they are also quite comfortable.

The large central touch screen in 10 ”tablet format stands out, which boasts a completely new interface. The screen has excellent resolution and is very fast, in addition to having a proximity function that when you bring your hand closer, it expands certain menus even before touching it. Just like Porsche!

Going back to the new system, it has distinctive colors for functionalities and is generally quite intuitive. The transitions and activation of certain functions are very similar to the way mobile phones operate, so getting used to it takes just a few minutes. But this is not the case when we realize the absence of the volume knob or climate control button.
