[MOTO] BMW R 1250 GS and Adventure 2021 with news for its 40th anniversary

Celebrating 40 years of the BMW GS phenomenon brings us new R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure editions for next season loaded with more standard equipment and endless factory options.

The BMW R 1250 GS range, in its standard edition and in its more traveling Adventure variant, are today the icons of the maxitrail segment. Much has to do with its extensive historical backing. In 2020 it will be 40 years since the birth of this saga that was able to combine for the first time in a single model top-level skills both on the road and off the asphalt.

For 2021, substantial novelties will be presented in both editions, with a special emphasis on its innovative depth hand in hand with even more sophisticated technologies.

On the one hand, the engine remains unchanged in terms of solutions and performance, the latter a very relevant fact since it now exceeds the restrictive Euro 5 regulations. Thus, the 1,254 cc boxer of the BMW R 1250 GS maintains its variable distribution system. ShiftCam and a maximum power of 136 hp.

In their electronic profile, from 2021 they will be fitted as standard with DTC traction control (more responsive than conventional ASC) and an added ECO driving mode to show when the driver is following more efficient riding practices. It also highlights the adaptation of the new BMW Integral ABS Pro, with more functions and with specific response depending on the chosen driving mode.

Regarding these driving modes, as factory-fitted optional equipment we find Pro parameters with a new individual mode selection system in the mode button. In addition, from now on they integrate the dynamic control of the engine brake. In this same chapter of options, the HSC Pro system for controlling the motorcycle on slopes with advanced functions is added.

Other optional novelties lie in the adaptive LED lights for the first time in the GS series, to which it adds new lighting functions such as welcome light ("Welcome" function), "Good bye" function and "Follow me home" function. On the other hand, the two front indicator bulbs are operated in such a way that they dim permanently and simultaneously. In the case of multifunctional rear indicator lights, the standard rear indicators are replaced by LED indicators that can simultaneously emit yellow flashing light and red brake light or tail light.

Continuing the novelties present in the BMW R 1250 GS and Adventure 2021 editions, they already have two different plugs as standard. A 12 V voltage socket for the vehicle and a USB socket with 5 V power supply. As an option, they incorporate heated seats for the pilot and passenger with a new, easier operation. In addition to the various driver's seats and footrests available as optional equipment or original BMW Motorrad accessories, the handlebar height can now also be adjusted with the handlebar risers available as an option.

The standard liveries are new in both 2021 versions, with triple black and Rally options. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the BMW GS models, special black and yellow finishes based on the legendary R 100 GS are on display. This 40th Anniversary livery will also be available on the other GS versions, such as the F 850 GS, F 850 GS Adventure, F 750 GS and G 310 GS.
