German Alexander Zverev, seventh in the ATP ranking, acknowledged this Friday that his compatriot Dominik Koepfer put him through difficult moments in the semifinals of the Mexican Tennis Open in Acapulco.

"Dominik is a tough player to beat, he showed that he can play very well at this level and today he didn't play a bad game, he gave me difficult moments," he said at a press conference after defeating Koepfer and reaching the Open final. Mexican, an ATP 500 tournament.

To beat the world's 71st racket, Acapulco second seed Zverev had to come back in the second set to win the match 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Zverev, 23, will play his second final at the Mexican Open on Saturday. In 2019 he fell in the Mexican resort to Australian Nick Kyrgios.

"Many things have happened since my last final in Acapulco, I am two years older, but I still have the same goal as then, to win the best tournaments in the world and this is definitely one of them," said the German.

The European tennis player denied that he is going to make a different preparation to play his ninth final in the ATP.

"I am preparing for a final just like for any other match. I will take it seriously, knowing that the opponent will be one of the best performers in the tournament and that they are not easy matches," he confessed.

The Mexican Tennis Open distributes a prize pool of 1,204,960 dollars (1,012,133 euros at the exchange rate) and takes place on a hard court.
