luminox™- Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 Have you ever woken up from a night's sleep prematurely and can't go back to closing your eyes? If that happens a lot, you could be experiencing some kind of insomnia. According to sleep expert Michelle Drerup, many underlying health problems such as chronic pain, sleep apnea, or acid reflexes can cause insomnia. "But if the cause is not a health problem, there are several ways you can treat it," said Drerup. Here are tips for getting back to sleep when you wake up at night: 1. Stop paying attention to the clock Staring at the clock will only make it harder for you to sleep because your mind's focus increases. 2. Relax until you fall asleep. Relax by tightening the muscles for five seconds and then relaxing them. Try from your fingers to your forehead. 3. Get out of bed. If you can not go back to sleep after about 15 to 20 minutes, get out of bed. "Don't spend time in bed trying to sleep because that actually makes it even harder for you to close your eyes," says Drerup. 4. Do activities that are not interesting Do something that decreases you are boring, such as reading an unattractive book or listening to music with a melancholy tone. When you start to feel sleepy, go back to bed. Read something unflattering. Listen to calming music. When you start to feel sleepy, go back to bed. 5. Avoid caffeine Do not consume caffeinated drinks for at least five to six hours before you plan to sleep. "Caffeine can keep you awake which in turn makes it harder for you to sleep," says Drerup.
