Biden warns Tehran after the strikes in eastern Syria

US President Joe Biden said that Iran could not get away with it, and advised it to be "cautious" when asked about the message he was sending to it about the US air strikes in Syria.
"You will not go unpunished, " Biden told reporters while traveling to Texas to see the damage caused by a severe winter storm.

Biden had ordered air strikes on facilities belonging to Iranian - backed militias in eastern Syria, Thursday, in response to missile attacks on US targets in Iraq.

The US strikes targeted the sites of armed factions on the Syrian side of the border with Iraq, where Tehran-backed groups control an important crossing for weapons, personnel and goods.
The US Department of Defense said it had preliminary information about the victims, but did not provide details.

Western officials and some Iraqi officials accuse the Iranian-backed groups of being involved in deadly missile strikes that targeted US sites and individuals in Iraq last month.

White House spokeswoman Jane Sackey said on Friday that the US air strikes in Syria were aimed at sending a message that Biden would work to protect Americans.

Saki added that any other US measures in the region would be in consultation, aimed at preventing the escalation of tension in Syria.

The attacks coincided with attempts by Washington and Tehran to return to the nuclear agreement, which was concluded in 2015 and from which former US President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018, in a move that ignited regional tensions and increased in the wake of fears of an all-out conflict
