The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said this Monday that his position has been ratified and "re-ratified" after the resounding victory of Chavismo in the legislative elections in which the opposition represented by the opposition leader Juan Guaidó did not participate.

"Here we are ratified and re-ratified by the love, the vote and the passion of a people," Maduro said after celebrating the "great victory" of Chavismo and referring to the approach he made days ago when he indicated that he would leave the presidency if the opposition he won the majority in Parliament.

In statements broadcast by the state channel VTV, the president indicated that he "would not return" to make that promise because, according to him, he received many messages from supporters who expressed "sadness."

Maduro also stressed that the result that Chavismo has obtained is a "great victory for democracy" after "a good election day."

Election results

The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela has reported that after midnight 5,264,104 votes had been counted, of which 3,558,320 were for the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP).

Meanwhile, an alliance headed by the traditional parties Democratic Action (AD) and the Independent Political Electoral Organization Committee (Copei) came in second place with 944,665 votes, which is 17.95%.

As detailed by the entity, the participation data in this election has been 31%.

On his part, the first vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, has also celebrated the Chavista victory and expressed his joy after knowing the electoral results.

Chavismo had been celebrating its triumph since before the results were announced in its campaign command, while the head of Parliament, Juan Guaidó, reiterated his denunciations on Twitter that this election is a "fraud."

Today the majority of Venezuela turned their backs on Maduro and his fraud.

The crisis is only going to deepen and we are obliged to stand up until solutions are achieved.

The parliamentary elections on Sunday have not had the participation of the opposition led by Guaidó, considering that the elections do not have sufficient guarantees to be a transparent process.

One of the issues for which the opposition decided not to participate is the intervention of political parties by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that put political leaders who had been expelled after being accused of being corrupt at the head of the organizations.

The opposition, in response, has called for a consultation that will be held between December 7 and 12 digitally and the last day will be in person, to reject the elections.

He also appointed a committee to monitor irregularities in the elections.
