IONIQ 5

After several months of waiting, Hyundai Motor Company today presented its first model under the IONIQ umbrella at a virtual event. It is the IONIQ 5, a car that will be the true starting point for the South Korean manufacturer's electrical branch. They say from the company that it comes to redefine the lifestyle of electric mobility.

This new electric car is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP). In this way, it has unique proportions, a huge wheelbase, a truly innovative design and high performance with ultra-fast loading and the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

The price and the exact date of arrival on the Spanish market is still a mystery, although Hyundai has stated that the new IONIQ 5 will be available in some regions during the first half of this year 2021.

A really good looking compact at every angle

As can be seen in the images, the IONIQ 5 is a really striking car. It has a body in a compact format, although its length is 4.63 meters. The width and height are 1.89 and 1.60 meters respectively, while the huge battle of no less than 3 meters stands out above.

This model stands out in each of its angles with a minimalist line, but at the same time worked. The front is very closed and it stands out above all the optics, with a cube-shaped daytime lighting. Of course, from LED. It is also important to mention the large area that covers the hood, as it even acts as a front wing. Obviously, the bumper is also very large.

From the side view we can highlight the shapes of the wheel arches, the aerodynamic 20-inch wheels, the many folds and lines of the doors, as well as the slim front pillar or the flush handles. In the final part of the roof we find a marked upper spoiler, but at the same time elegant.

No less attractive is the rear, with a very characteristic lighting scheme made up of multiple small points in a strip that runs along the entire horizontal. In the middle appears the IONIQ 5 inscription, and just above the Hyundai logo. As you can see, the entire exterior design is very striking, which can be in nine different colors, but wait inside.

Universal Island? The IONIQ 5 console is slidable and you can even lie down
In the cabin. Hyundai has called "Universal Island" (Universal Island) the movable center console that can slide 14 centimeters back. The brand says that this, together with the flat floor where the batteries are stored, allows ample freedom of movement inside.

The front seats can be electronically adjusted to exaggerated angles, as you can see in the photos. They really look like recliners, being able to even lift our feet off the floor. I suppose to take a short nap while we recharge the batteries. By the way, the thickness of the seats has been significantly reduced to give even more space to the rear row passengers.

To all this must be added visible technological solutions, such as the configurable dual cockpit with 12-inch touch screen or the digital instrument panel of identical dimensions. Everything can be customized based on the driver's tastes. In addition, for the first time in a vehicle from the South Korean manufacturer, the IONIQ 5 has a Head-Up Display with augmented reality.

Regarding driving and safety aids, it is equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense. It is also important to note that the IONIQ 5 is the first from the Asian company to offer the Highway Driving Assist 2 system. Other driving aids are the well-known blind spot control, emergency braking, speed limit assistant, fatigue or automatic high beams among others.

Ultra-fast battery charging in conjunction with the innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function
It offers the 800 V load capacity as standard in conjunction with 400 V, without the need for additional adapters. This system is a technology that drives the motor and inverter to increase power from 400V to 800V for stable load compatibility.

With a 350 kW charger, the IONIQ 5 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Similarly, IONIQ 5 customers only need to charge the vehicle for five minutes to achieve 100 km of range.

The V2L function of this electric model allows users to use or charge electric devices, such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment, both in motion and static. It can supply up to 3.6 kW of power. The V2L port is located under the second row seats and is activated when the vehicle is on. Another V2L port is located on the outside of the vehicle.
