For some time now, developers of programs as widely used as Internet browsers have been facing a serious problem that affects most of their clients, let's talk about the proposal that we talk about, and it is the one that refers to the high consumption of computer resources that these programs generally do.

It is worth mentioning that this is something that becomes especially clear when we make intensive use of the program, something more than usual today, or also when we have a PC that is just in terms of specifications, or old. It is for all this that these firms involved, such as Google, Mozilla or Microsoft, are putting a good part of their efforts in order to try to alleviate this important problem in their products.

Well, in this case we are going to focus on Firefox, Mozilla's proposal that is one of the most popular and used alternatives in the world and that at the moment, through its most recent update, is automatically suspending those tabs that do not they are being used in the event that the available system memory is less than 400 megabytes. It is worth mentioning that version 67 of the program already comes with this function enabled by default, so it downloads tabs that have not been used for a while when the amount of memory is low.

All this at first might sound very good, especially on older PCs, but now the firm itself, Mozilla, has realized that there is a flaw in the low memory detection mechanism that they have implemented for everyone. Specifically, it has been reported that the tab suspension functionality in Firefox 67 has an important bug that would affect many browser users.

Fix Firefox 67 memory usage bug
Specifically, there is talk of a bug that causes Firefox itself to discard those tabs even if the free memory available is several gigabytes, which affects the browsing experience of users with "spare" equipment in an unexpected way. In fact, a report has been published in which it is mentioned that the tabs could be suspended even with more than enough system memory available, as we discussed.

This is something that has already been confirmed by the Mozilla engineer, Gabriele Svelto, so now he is recommending to users that they should disable the corresponding function, something that we are going to show you below. At the same time they wanted to make it clear that at the moment they do not know if this is due to a recent change in Windows, or if it has always been the case. With everything and with this, the firm considers that we should deactivate the feature of releasing tabs with low memory until everything is definitively resolved.

In this way, the first thing we must do is type in the Firefox navigation bar "about: config", where we accept the security warning that appears on the screen. Next, we do a search for the entry "browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory", so we change its value to "False" to disable it until Mozilla releases a definitive solution.
