[Auto/Moto] Dominican government receives 148 vehicles donated by China

The Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, led the act in which the Dominican Government received from the government of the People's Republic of China, a donation of eight off-road commando vehicles for military use and 140 motorcycles, with around 15,000 spare parts. and accessories for future maintenance.

Macarrulla expressed that it is a special day in which ties of friendship with the Chinese people are strengthened, for which he thanked the contribution to the Dominican people.

"The generosity of the Chinese Government has a direct impact on the strengthening of citizen security, an issue of great concern and of great interest to the Dominican Government," said the official.

These vehicles will be used for the defense of national sovereignty and will be distributed among the three institutions that make up the Armed Forces: the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Dominican Republic, as well as the National Police.

A written statement expresses that the significant contribution of this flotilla will provide the Armed Forces with greater operability in the execution of their missions and the ground mobility of their troops.

The units were delivered by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China in the Dominican Republic, Zhang Run, to the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa.

The Chinese ambassador said at the event that “the establishment of diplomatic relations more than two years ago opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. From that moment on, the exchange and cooperation between both parties in various fields, including defense and the police, have flourished ”.

The Chinese diplomat recalled that, in April last year, Major General Huang Xueping, deputy director general of the Office of International Military Cooperation (IMCO) of the Central Military Commission of China, paid a visit to the Dominican Republic, in which it was agreed provide cooperation to the Armed Forces and the Dominican National Police.

Ambassador Zhang Run expressed his high respect to the Armed Forces and the Dominican National Police, whom he praised for his work in the first line of defense against COVID-19 through great sacrifices and contributions.

He trusted that these vehicles donated by the Chinese government will help the military and police to play their role as guarantors of the country's security and stability.

The Ambassador reiterated the willingness of the government he represents to continue working with the Dominican side under a long-term perspective and thus take advantage of every minute to further deepen cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality and reciprocal benefit to bring the relationships to a new height.
