[News] Vaccines against coronavirus are already in Ecuador

The first vaccines against the coronavirus arrived on the afternoon of this Wednesday, January 20, at the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito.

The KLM company plane landed at 16:22 at the air terminal.

The Government announced that 8,000 doses or 4,000 vaccines would arrive.

In December of last year, the National Agency for Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance (ARCSA) approved that the vaccine developed by Pfizer-Biontech be administered and distributed in the country, so the immediate process was its clearance.

At the Quito airport there were authorities who were present at the reception, such as Vice President María Alejandra Muñoz, the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos and the Secretary of the Cabinet, Juan Sebastián Roldán.

Ten minutes later the aircraft doors were opened. An Ecuadorian flag was placed on the cargo before it was unloaded.

Muñoz said that the first phase will allow to calibrate the process to get ready for the massive phase.

"Today is a day of hope for Ecuador. This year 2021 begins with another side of the story, the uncertainty begins to clear up," added the official.

With the arrival of the drug, the initial vaccination phase begins this Thursday.

Once the doses to be used in Quito were landed, the plane took off to Guayaquil where there was to be a second landing that would include the medicine to be used in the city of Cuenca.
