More than 28,000 driver partners in the Dominican Republic offer the Uber mobility service and it is used by more than 500,000 users. The application has had an increase in the services it offers, especially from Uber Moto after the COVID-19 pandemic and with the increase in traffic in the National District. The leader of Communications is Uber for the Caribbean and Central America, Carolina Coto Recio, explained that the Dominican Republic is the first country in the region to use motorcycles to provide services from that company and users have increased their use since March due to the coronavirus pandemic .

“The Dominican Republic is an avant-garde country, with a vision of the future and cultural particularities. This is why Uber Moto has been available in Santo Domingo since 2017, and thus becomes the first country in all of Latin America to have this modality, ”she said.

She indicated that Uber Moto responds to the specific realities of Dominicans, who for many years have offered transfer services on motorcycles. This service first began to be available in the National District, and is now available in Santiago de los Caballeros and San Francisco de Macorís. In addition, Uber Moto will soon reach other areas of the capital such as Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Oeste. They will also soon announce the launch in Punta Cana, La Romana, Higüey and San Pedro de Macorís.

Coto explained that this expansion is a clear sign of commitment to the country. She said Uber Moto allows people to make payments with cash or credit cards, as well as track the people who use it via the app, thus providing security.

“We have seen that Uber Moto is used as a complementary mobility alternative because it is a convenient and efficient modality. Likewise, we remain committed to expanding and providing solutions to the community in the country, ”she said.

Anyone who meets the requirements can register to be a driver partner. Some requirements are to be at least 18 years old, have an engine in good condition and present documents such as a valid driver's license, recent photo and motor insurance that covers damage to third parties.
