[News] Police cordon off monumental area before call to protest against curfew

Dozens of agents of the National Police were stationed at the entrances and exits of Daniel Espinal streets at the corner of Las Carreras avenue, Del Sol street and Francia avenue, covering all sides of the emblematic Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration before a call for protest that originated in social networks against the curfew.

‘’ No more curfew. We are all going to the Monument this Saturday 16 at 9:00 AM, '' says the digital brochure that was disseminated by different social networks, without achieving the attention and support of the sectors summoned as owners of nightclubs, restaurants, grocery stores, artists, designers, taxi drivers, among other sectors that, according to the statement, are affected by the government's provision, which is intended to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Without preventing the free movement of people who approach the symbolic monument to recreate, do exercises or take a picture, the Police officers make sure that no groups are formed, in order to avoid the start of the attempted demonstration, which has not been assumed by no po[CENSORED]r, community or social group known from Santiago.

This Saturday and Sunday the curfew starts at 12:00 noon with free transit until 3:00 in the afternoon, so those who do not have exceptional permits will not be able to circulate.

 

 

Call in Moca

The Espaillat Governorate front, in the Moca municipality, is the scene in which a protest against the curfew has been called for next Friday, January 22.

The call is from the Po[CENSORED]r Movement Los Peregrinos, reported its coordinator, Juan Comprés, who explained that they will demand with a "civic stop" the end of the curfew and reductions in the price of fuel, which, the organization says, affects housewives, taxi drivers, motoconchistas, lawyers, small merchants, owners of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, among other sectors whom he calls to the demonstration.

The lawyer Alfredo Martínez, joining the call, said that the municipality's lawyers will be demonstrating to demand, in addition to the curfew being eliminated, that the courts be opened.

The demonstration will begin at 10:00 in the morning.
