EvKirito Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 The Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA) and the Coconut Cluster signed an agreement through which they seek to achieve the industrialization of coconut wood and bamboo, in order to reduce poverty levels with the creation of direct jobs and indirect. The agreement was signed by the director of the FEDA, Efraín Toribio, and the president of the Coco Cluster, Enrique González, who highlighted the importance of the agreement for national production. According to the document, it seeks to industrialize and take advantage of coconut wood, which until now has not been considered its real value in the furniture industry and the construction of floors and baseball bats. The pact also contemplates the execution of a program to replace senile coconut plantations for the conversion of these into wood, for export purposes to the European Union and the United States of North America. The industrial warehouse for the processing of bamboo and coconut wood is located in Juma, Bonao. The creation of the Bamboo and Coconut Innovation Technology Institute (ITIBCO) was also agreed upon, which will serve as a training school for entrepreneurs to handle both products. Toribio and González indicated that "a horizontal collaboration model will be designed where the parties are involved in business, marketing and product processing matters so that values are added as a way to make projects more profitable and generate more jobs." The agreement, which will last for 5 years, indicates that a process of industrialization of coconut wood will be carried out at the facilities of the bamboo processing plant belonging to the FEDA. The project will positively impact the Cibao region with the massive planting of coconut and bamboo crops. It underlines that the parties can develop new joint investments in common property for the development of this agreement. "For such purposes, the facilities and equipment of the FEDA will be used in common and the machinery and goods that are needed for the case of the processing of coconut wood will also be acquired," he says. Explain that the Coconut Cluster will manage the industrial plant in everything related to coconut processing and will coordinate the use of common machinery by mutual agreement. The agreement also seeks to promote and develop productive and technological innovations to implement a common coconut and bamboo wood flooring industry, as well as promote coconut planting.
