[Auto] UAZ Patriot: The Russian TT that lands in the US and could reach Europe

It is more than likely that if I ask for the name of UAZ nobody will know what or who it is. But it is nothing more than the acronym for Ulianovski Avtomobilny Zavod. To understand who I am asking for, it would have to be translated from Russian into Spanish and it would come out as something like Ulianovsk Automobile Factory. Well, now that it is clear I am going to tell you that it is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in Russia that specializes in TT.

The UAZ headquarters are located in Ulyanovsk and from there it exports SUVs, buses, cargo and military vehicles all over the world. In fact, it is well known for the UAZ-469 model, a derivation of the Jeep CJ-7 from World War II. However, the great novelty of this manufacturer comes from the hand of a model that has just been launched in the US and could well do the same in Europe. It's called UAZ Patriot and attentive, because it promises.

The UAZ Patriot will be sold in the US as Bremach Taos

The new generation of the UAZ Patriot was presented a month ago. Its sale is scheduled to start in its local market in the first weeks of 2021. However, those responsible for the firm have decided that it must reach more markets. One of the most important for them is America and thanks to the Italian firm Bremach they are achieving high sales. Now, they go one step further and launch the Bremach Taos in this region of the globe.

Perhaps its commercial name sounds familiar to you, as it is the same that the Volkswagen Taos will use. All in all, the main attributes of this Americanized Patriot are under his skin. In the first place, because it is developed on a robust ladder chassis that gives it off-road qualities beyond any doubt. This will help, to a large extent a ground clearance of 21 centimeters or a wading capacity of 50 centimeters.

Regarding the mechanical offer there are two possible options. In gasoline there is a 2.7-liter block with 135 hp and 150 hp respectively. The offer, in diesel, is satisfied with a single version. Specifically, it uses a 2.3-liter with 114 hp of power. All versions are linked to a manual transmission with 5 relations and permanent all-wheel drive with reducer and differential locks. The only downside is that the rear brakes are drum.

For its part, the Bremach Taos for the US has some modifications. One of the most interesting is the arrival of an automatic transmission of General Motors origin. Regarding the interior and equipment possibilities they are very fair since, for example, it only equips two airbags. Of course, it has a touch screen or reversing camera. It will be necessary to see if those responsible are encouraged and launched in Europe, although as a low cost option I would embroider it.
