David Ortiz and Álex Rodríguez will be on the ballot for the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Class of 2022, a list that includes other greats.

The two players will appear on the ballot next November.

The official Hall of Fame website publishes the list of former players who will appear on the ballot and for whom the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) will vote.

Ortiz has plenty of numbers to be chosen for the Hall of Immortality, although his designated hitter position weighs heavily on him. One saving gap to take into account for his benefit is that Frank Thomas, who was about 50 percent of his career designated hitter, was inducted into the Cooperstown Hall.

Rodriguez has staggering numbers, desirable for any player, but has the asterisk of having tested positive for controlled substance use, making his choice a bit dubious.

Ortiz is a 10-time All-Star player. He played 20 seasons for the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox. He is a winner of seven Silver Bat awards as a designated hitter.

He was never an MVP, but was in the top four four times.

He led the American League in RBIs three times (2005-06 and 2016).

He finished his career with 1,768 RBIs, 22nd all-time. He hit 541 home runs, 17 on the all-time list.

He was the MVP of the 2004 Championship Series and the 2013 World Series, one of three world series that helped the Red Sox win.

The work of A-Rod

Rodríguez was a three-time Most Valuable Player of the American League (2003, 2005, 2007) and 14 times he visited the All-Star Game in his 22 seasons that he distributed in three teams: Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and New York Yankees.

He won the Silver Bat 10 times at his shortstop and third base positions.

Led the American League in runs scored five times (1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007), home runs five times (2001-03, 2005, 2007), slugging percentage four times (2003, 2005, 2007-08) and runs boosted twice (2002, 2007).

He had 696 home runs, fourth all-time and 2,086 RBIs, third in career.

He is a member of the Yankees team that won the World Series in 2009.

The list is completed by Carl Crawford, Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, Tim Lincecum, Joe Nathan, Jonathan Papelbon, Jake Peavy, A.J. Pierzinsky, Jimmy Rollins and Mark Teixeira.

Adverse factor

Rodríguez faces an element that could affect him, after his positive case for the use of prohibited substances, which he initially denied, until he declared the consumption of steroids.

For that reason, he was suspended in the 2014 campaign and according to publications it cost him about 40 million dollars.

On top of that, several sleepless nights, as he confessed three years later, according to USA Today.

"I remember sitting there at night, maybe 4 or 5 in the morning, I probably did this a hundred nights, and I would look up with tears and say, 'How the hell did I get into this position? I'm the only idiot who he has aces in and finds a way to lose his hand. "

"There are so many frustrating things when you look back," Rodriguez said. "Number one, you have a contract guaranteed for hundreds of millions of dollars. You can literally sit on the couch and get fat. Truth? How stupid can you be? ... This thing cost me over $ 40 million. And it cost my reputation, and it may have cost me the Hall of Fame and many other things. "

Moment of choise

According to the Hall of Fame page, in the election rules, article 7 refers to the moment of the election of the candidates.

In this chapter the duly authorized representatives of the BBWAA will prepare, date and mail the ballots to each voter during the last part of November. The voter will sign and return the complete ballot no later than December 31. The vote will be tabulated by the duly authorized representatives of the BBWAA.

Both players retired in 2016, so when the next major league season ends they will complete five seasons without playing.
