[Auto/Moto] Reportan 33 fallecidos en accidentes ocurridos en 10 días, algunos en toque de queda

Thirty-three people died in more than 160 traffic accidents that occurred in the last 10 days, with at least eight of those fatal events occurring during the curfew time decreed by the Executive Power as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

 

The count and the details are extracted from the bulletins issued until today by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) with the incidents that occurred inside and outside the two phases of the Christmas and New Year's operation "A commitment for life 2020-2021 ”.

 

At 1:00 am, on the edge of the restriction of freedom of movement beginning on December 25, an accident was recorded on Manolo Tavarez Justo avenue in Puerto Plata that caused the deaths of José Américo Abreu Reyes, 49, and Nereyda Guzmán.

 

Ten minutes later another event occurred on the main road of Batey María in the Espaillat province for which Josebel José Núñez Tavarez, 35, died. And at 2:00 a.m. Another accident was recorded on the main road of Cerro Hermoso in San José de las Matas, in which Adrián Fernández, 17, died.

 

Rafael Martínez died from an accident that occurred at 12:30 a.m. on December 31, within curfew hours, in an event that occurred on Main Street of Mamey Los Hidalgos in Puerto Plata.

 

That same day, 15-year-old Siuverly Díaz Quezada also died due to an accident that occurred at 9:20 p.m. when she was traveling on the Santiago-Santo Domingo section of the Duarte highway.

 

On December 31, the curfew and the restriction of freedom of movement decreed by the Executive Power began at 7:00 p.m. and culminated at 5:00 a.m. January 1.

During this period, an accident also occurred on the La Breña-Sabana Arriba road section, in Santiago Rodríguez, in which Lefen Adini, 26, died, and another at the entrance to La Chiva, near the Licey al Medio park, Santiago , for which Dariel Francisco Tavarez Díaz, 26, died.

 

In 25 of the 33 fatal traffic accidents a motorcycle was involved, this type of vehicle being the one that is most recorded in events of this kind in the country, representing up to more than 60% in one year.

 

The other deaths from traffic accidents reported by the COE, which are not counted in curfew or restriction of free traffic hours, are Manauris Linares (35) and Magreidi Linares (14), at kilometer 40 of the Duarte highway ; Juan Ramón Reynoso Aquino (58), at the intersection of La Caleta; and Guillermo Arturo Vargas (34), at kilometer 10 of the Sánchez highway.

 

Also, Zacarías de Jesús Mariano (68), on the East highway; José Luis Castro Siret (41), Samaná-El Limón highway; José Américo Abreu Reyes (49) and Nereyda Guzmán, in Puerto Plata; Alfredo Brito (37), on the Las Américas highway; Luis Alberto Nolasco (57), on the Cofresí-Maimón highway; and Lesther Abel Rojas Alvarado (45), on the Nagua-Cabrera highway.

 

Likewise, José Ramón Díaz Abreu (44), in Jarabacoa; Actenoise Noel (29), in Cacao; Edgar Peña Sosa (35), on Vega Real avenue; Yojansel Robles Valdes (16), in San Cristóbal; Yajaira Mercedes Hernández Gonzalez (26), in Ojo de Agua; and Rafael Antonio Cepeda Ventura (53), in Licey al Medio.

 

In addition, Cristino Guzmán Pérez (57), on the Sánchez highway; Dalbin López María (24), on the 30 de Mayo highway; Saulo Adolfo Méndez Zorrilla (19), in San Pedro de Macorís; Oscar Severino (34), at kilometer 44 of the Duarte highway; José Tejada Fernández (59) and Francisca de los Santos Payano (61), in Montecristi; Mecilien Pierre (38) and Josué Joseph (36), on the Navarrete-Esperanza highway; and David Polanco Vargas (32) and Wilson Beriguete Montero (24), on the Nagua-Arroyo al Medio highway.

 

Four of the deceased reported by the COE died in accidents that occurred at dawn on January 1.

 

In addition to the deaths reported from December 23, 2020 until this morning, at least 233 people were affected in traffic accidents compiled by the COE.

The first phase of the COE operation spanned from December 23 to 25, 2020 and the second from December 30, 2020 to January 1, 2021.
