Santo Domingo

Robinson Canó debuted with two home runs and drove in four runs to give the Eastern Stars the first victory of the mini-playoff, agreed to the best of three games, by beating the Leones del Escogido this Sunday 8-4, at the start of the post- 2020-2021 fall-winter championship season.

Canó made a big comeback to the Dominican ball, taking the ball in his first turn in a solitary way through the right field of the Tetelo Vargas stadium, and then with two running backs in circulation in his second visit to the plate in front of the pitcher of the year shipments, David Kubiak, who was slaughtered with five hits and four runs in just two full innings, though he threw four batters to them in the third inning but didn't throw out.

Canó, who is suspended in the majors for the entire 2021 season due to a second anti-doping program violation, is playing for the Stars for the first time since 2016.

The Stars also featured the debut of star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who hit 2-0, received a pitch and a walk, with a run scored, as second in the lineup.

Right-hander Radhames Liz started for the Petromacorisanos and allowed three runs and three hits in three innings, with one walk and five strikeouts, but came out without a decision.

The Orientals, who had 13 hits in the game, also had a two-run homer and two runs scored by Rookie of the Year Jeremy Peña, as well as a homer and a pair-lap RBI single by Panamanian Christian Bethancourt, with two runs scored.

With this artillery, the Petromacorisanos are one triumph from advancing to the semifinal of the Dominican

tournament.

Domingo Robles won in relief of three solid innings of blank, of only one walk awarded with two strikeouts.

The second game of the series will be played this Monday from 6:00 in the afternoon at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

Panamanian left-hander Andy Otero will start for the Stars. While left-hander Enny Romero will do it for the Lions.

If necessary, a third match would take place on Tuesday from 7:30 pm at the Tetelo Vargas stadium.

So they scored

The Greens scored in the first with a solo homer from Canó down right field off Kubiak.

The Reds tied for third when back-to-back singles by Jonathan Guzmán and Julio E. Rodríguez off Radhamés Liz placed runners in the corners with no out and a touch from Iván Castillo through the pitcher's grounds led Guzmán to the rubber.

In the third, another hit by Canó against Kubiak through the right meadow, this time with two runners in circulation, produced another three for the Petromacorisanos.

The Lions made a couple of lines in the fourth by filling the bases thanks to a pitch to Aderlin Rodríguez, a walk to Luis Liberato de Liz, who was replaced by Chester Pimentel and was received by Florial's single to left field to congest the pads.

Miguel Gómez, who entered for Joseph Rosa, hit the right field to push Aderlin Rodríguez with the second red touchdown and Julio E. Rodríguez received a transfer, which led Liberato to the plate with the third of the visitors.
