Fernando González spent how his time as a tennis player was, in which he crossed paths with the Swiss and the Spanish on several occasions.

Fernando González had a brilliant career, however, an idea has always hovered in his head. Had it not coincided with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, it could have been even more successful.

This was confessed by one of the great athletes in the history of Chile in the talk 'Stories that Transform' at the Universidad Santo Tomás de Chile in which he reviewed his career on the circuit.

A career in which González, Olympic doubles champion in Athens 2004 together with Nicolás Massú, faced two of the great rackets in world tennis on several occasions: the Swiss Roger Federer and the Spanish Rafa Nadal.

"I was in the most difficult generation in history. If Nadal, Federer or Murray had not existed, maybe I would have more prizes and more cups. Still, I feel that it was an experience that enriched me a lot."

The finals that González lost with Federer and Nadal
Gonzalez is not lacking in reason since, against both Federer and Nadal, he was on the verge of winning more titles. Against the Swiss, with whom he is 1-12, González lost the final of the Masters 1,000 in Madrid and the Basel tournament in 2006 as well as the final of the Australian Open in 2007.

The statistics with Nadal also mark the career of González, which ended with a 3-7 balance against the Balearic, who prevented him from winning the title at the 1000 Masters in Rome in 2007 and the long-awaited Olympic gold at the 2008 Beijing Games. where Nadal won the final by 6-3, 7-6 (2) and 6-3.

González also reviewed how he began with the racket. "I started in tennis when I was 4 years old but I liked football more. Over time I fell more in love with this sport and I had the ability to do things that other players took years to achieve." He also wanted to assess the current situation of Chilean sports, which he sees better than before. "Chile is not a very athletic country, although it has improved in recent years. Representing them was always a great pride for me."
