Juan José Ribera took command of Coquimbo at the beginning of last September, replacing Argentine Germán Corengia. Then, the aurinegros occupied the last place in the standings of the National Championship with only 5 points (one win, two draws and six losses) and awaited the start of the second round of the South American Cup, after having eliminated Aragua from Venezuela .

After more than three months, Ribera's work in office has borne unexpected fruit: Coquimbo will dispute before Defense and Justice of Argentina for the passage to the South American final, fulfilling a historic campaign. At the local level, the aurinegros are still on alert, since they occupy the penultimate position, although with two games less, due to their participation in the continental competition.

"Manage the facets of the game"
A young coach (he turned 40 in October), Ribera is already on his way to his seventh season in command of a team. He started in 2013 in Malleco de Segunda División and then jumped to Primera B in Deportes Concepción, with his first stint at Coquimbo, Rangers and his debut in the top flight was with Audax Italiano. In the 5 clubs he was carving out a demanding DT profile, close and with a marked tactical flexibility in his way of playing.

Interviewed by AS on his landing at Audax, the Chilean specified that "we like teams that work. We do not like players who detach from the defensive part or detach from working without the ball, we need a fighting team. Today if a player is subtracted, it becomes very complicated. We like to press, the teams that try to steal the ball in the opponent's field. The teams that know how to handle all facets of the game. For that you have to work on these aspects. No matter how offensive you are , in a moment you have to defend yourself the same ".

"I am a lot of talking and being close to the player. Close people advise me in a way and I have tried to change, but I am like that. I am a lot of skin, of talking. I do demand and we make decisions as a coaching staff. I like it a lot too listen to my people, making the decision. Also understand why the player could be in a bad time, you don't have to be so lapidary, "Ribera added when he began his work with the Floridians in April 2018.

"The message is the important one"
He left Audax at the end of last season and after a few months inactive he was recruited again by Coquimbo with the mission of avoiding relegation, a task that is in full swing. The Aurinegro cast today adds 23 points (Colo Colo is the bottom with 21 units) and Ribera added to the campaign 5 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses, with a 46% performance.

In Coquimbo he quickly replicated the form of play that paid off with Audax. The nortinos are a compact and hermetic box in the defensive phase, which acts as a block in the pressure tasks in different sectors of the field. Its game construction is rather limited, with an important value of direct and long action, emphasizing the combinations on the sides as the predominant form of penetration.

A few weeks ago talking with AS about his work in Coquimbo, the DT expressed a key aspect of his profile in the search to go out of the bottom in the table: "The message is the important one, the way how one can reach the player . Not all are the same, the reception of the message is not the same in a squad. Some work with one type of language and others with another type. There are some that work by raising their voices and others by making them affectionate. You have to have players who allow themselves to be trained , with the hope and commitment to reach the maximum ".

"We tell the players that we are never going to change the way they play, but we are going to give them nuances to hopefully achieve a better performance, according to what the coach thinks. In this sense, the player must have clarity that each coach has his form, his method, his way of seeing football and, in this context, the player must put his characteristics to the benefit of the team, "Ribera added on that occasion.
