[News] Saudi Arabia receives first doses of Pfizer vaccine against covid-19

Health Minister Tawfiq al Rabiah promised that the drug will be "available to everyone soon", adding that the inoculation campaign will be organized through a digital application.

 

The Government of Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday the arrival of the first shipment of vaccines against covid-19, which will be supplied to those over 65 years of age first, explained the Saudi Minister of Health, Tawfiq al Rabiah.

 

"I hope that this is the beginning of the relief of the crisis," said the minister in an intervention broadcast by the official television Al Ijbariya. In addition, he promised that the vaccine will be "available to everyone soon", adding that the vaccination campaign will be carried out through the digital application "Sahati" (my health), launched yesterday. According to the Ministry of Health, the number of people who have registered in "Sahati" exceeded 150,000 and all of them will get the vaccine for free.

 

The process will be divided into three stages and the first will vaccinate the most vulnerable, those over 65 years of age and those who work in sectors where they are most exposed to the coronavirus. In the second stage, it will be the turn of those over 50 and the rest of the health sector workers; and finally, in the third phase, all residents and citizens of the kingdom will receive the vaccine. In the Arab country, more than 360,000 coronavirus infections and more than 6,000 deaths have been registered to date, out of a po[CENSORED]tion of just over 34 million.

 

Last month, the Saudi Ministry of Health announced that 70% of the po[CENSORED]tion that was not exposed to covid-19 will be vaccinated and free of charge before the end of 2021, with the aim of returning to normality prior to the pandemic. Saudi Arabia approved the use of the US-German vaccine Pfizer-BioNTech, as have Kuwait and Bahrain, while the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have licensed the signature vaccine.
