Ferrari SF90 Spider

Ferrari has launched the new SF90 Spider, which ranks as the most powerful production convertible in the world. Although this competition was played inside in the Italian house, because the unseated model is its own Ferrari 812 GTS.

The SF90 Stradale (fixed roof version) was presented in May last year and its convertible version promises more sensations without sacrificing technical aspects. In the words of the brand managers: it offers the same "record performance".

A price at the level of Ferrari
This Spider is Ferrari's second hybrid convertible, after the 2017 LaFerrari Aperta. Deliveries to customers are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2021, with prices in its Italian local market starting at € 473,000. So prices are expected similar in Spain.

Its powertrain is a plug-in hybrid with four-wheel drive, which is unsurprisingly the same as the Stradale. That is, a 4.0-liter V8 with a 780 hp twin-turbo, coupled to a pair of electric motors on the front axle and one on the rear.

The combined power of the electric units is 220 hp, which contributes to the final power being 1,000 hp and the engine torque reaching 900 Nm. All of this force is sent to the ground through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, ready to withstand such a rush of power.

SF90 Spider performance
The SF90 Spider equals the Stradale in 0-100 km / h with a time of 2.5 seconds and only loses 1 km / h in top speed with a total of 341 km / h. However, what is more significant is that he has recorded a lap time of 1 minute and 19.5 seconds at the Ferrari-owned Fiorano circuit. That is, just 0.5 seconds behind the fixed roof version and 0.2 seconds faster than the LaFerrari.

The SF90 Spider is capable of running on electricity alone thanks to its 7.9 kWh battery. Its homologated autonomy in 100% electric mode is 25 km, so it would not have the 'Zero' label from the DGT when it is sold in Spain.

Like all Ferrari convertibles of the modern era, the Spider features a retractable aluminum hardtop, which opens and closes in just 14 seconds. As the brand indicates, it weighs 40 kg less than a conventional system and requires only 50 liters of available storage space. In addition, the rear glass can be raised or lowered when the roof is up to affect the buffeting of the wind when driving at high speeds.

In total, the roof mechanism and the necessary chassis stiffeners add just 100kg to the set. Which puts the total weight of the Spider at 1,670 kg, which is almost 300 kg more than the LaFerrari Aperta. However, Ferrari says that the improved stability and traction provided by the electrified front wheels equates to an »equivalent weight reduction« of around 200 kg.
