[Auto] The Ford Mondeo range, as long as it continues to be sold, will be only hybrid

The American firm, after years of successes and good sales, is having serious problems finding a replacement. When they launched the current generation, in 2013, they did not imagine that their commercial space would end up occupied by the Kuga or Edge. All in all, the Mondeo production is maintained at the Almussafes technical center (Valencia - Spain) although with slight changes. He has said goodbye forever to diesel and gasoline mechanics.

The future of the Ford Mondeo, although confirmed, is a mystery

According to an official statement issued by Ford, the production of the Mondeo will be limited to 100 percent hybrid versions. The reason for taking this step lies in the growth that its market share has experienced in Europe. So far this year, sales have increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year 2019. However, it is in the United Kingdom and Italy where it has reached the highest penetration.

If we take a look at the Ford web configurator in Spain we will see how the Mondeo range has been. Today you can only reserve diesel units so opting for gasoline is impossible. In addition, in the header there is only reference to the hybrid version. Regarding the bodies available, you can still choose between the four-way sedan or the more versatile and familiar Sportbreak.

And you may wonder why Ford carries out this drastic reduction of range? Simple, this year you must comply with emissions regulations and only the hybrid version helps you lower the average of the range. Therefore, the rest of the engines in the range prevent you from reaching your goal, which, as you imagine, is not having to pay penalties. It remains to be seen how long the current Ford Mondeo lasts on the market.
