[Auto] Genesis GV70: Premium SUV segment comes alive with new blood

The polarization of the automotive sector is causing manufacturers to change their tactics when entering the market. Until two decades ago, when a brand wanted to attack a segment or niche, what it did was "copy" the reference model. This we have seen in brands like Lexus, Infiniti or Acura. That tactic is not valid today, and the proof is in how Hyundai's premium firm has evolved in recent years.

Genesis came up with great ideas and intentions. Launching the G70, G80 and G90 sedans was the spearhead of their offensive, but there is more. They know that SUVs are the present and, it seems that the future, so they want to offer a very attractive and competitive range. Well, after introducing their first all-road, the GV80, they come back wanting more. The Genesis GV70 will hit the market shortly to destabilize the Bavarian premiums.

The attention to detail on the Genesis GV70 strikes high ground

If we take a look at the exterior design of the Genesis GV70 we can see the similarities with its older brother. The powerful front that revolves around the “Crest Grille”, inspired by the brand's logo, stands out. Double Quad Lamps headlamps add a touch of originality and dynamism. Finally, it presents a bumper that, depending on the version chosen, has more stylized or sporty lines.

The GV70's side view is simpler, though not lacking in character for that. Its lines are fluid and marked, mainly in areas such as the wheel arches, tension lines of the doors or the format of the roof. Without falling into excess, it presents a coupé air that is accentuated by the chrome line that descends to the "C" pillar. All this adorned by large alloy wheels and exclusive design.

At the rear the configuration is also similar to that seen on the GV80. As on the front, the Quad Lamps optics are present. The lower area features a bumper decorated with a G-Matrix pattern and a diffuser in the same tone as the body. The exhaust outlets are integrated into it and have a vertical format. As we have mentioned, this configuration is not standard, since the Sport version emphasizes the sportiness of the whole.

Inside, the Genesis GV70 offers a minimalist and highly technological design. Three elements stand out in it. First the 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster. Next we have the 14.5-inch central touch screen presiding over the dashboard. Finally, the central area has an oval shape in which the controls for the climate are integrated. Everything, finished off by leather and first-class materials.

 

And so far ... there is still a lot of data missing

On a technical level, Hyundai's premium subsidiary does not give data. We know that the GV70 is based on a variation of the platform used by the G70, but we do not know how they have adjusted it. Therefore, it is to be understood that the mechanical range will be shared with him, although interesting news could also arrive. His arrival in the US is scheduled for next year 2021, so it won't take long for us to have more information.

What we do know is that premium Bavarians will be sweating from all their pores. Too bad Genesis has no plans to release it in Europe.
