The president of the Higher Sports Council, Irene Lozano, has guaranteed this Friday to the athletes who make up the ADO program that their preparation scholarships for the Tokyo Games are guaranteed.

This public statement by the Secretary of State has been made before more than 130 athletes who make up the Plan in a contact that took place online this morning. Irene Lozano wanted to give certainty to Spanish athletes after some information had appeared in which a decrease in the contributions of the program was collected.

The President of the Council informed them that if there were no other way to complete the established budget, the CSD would guarantee said contribution, so that none of the scholarships would suffer any reduction in their entirety. In addition, the draft general state budget approved by the Council of Ministers contemplates an increase of 22.5% in the amount allocated to sports compared to last year.

The budget of the ADO program in this Olympic cycle, which has been 5 years due to the postponement of the Tokyo Games due to the pandemic, has amounted to 38,187,500 euros, of which the CSD has been the main "sponsor" with a contribution of 16,100,000 euros, covering the CSD with 56%, 61% and 62% of the entire budget in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020.
