H O L D F I R E 流 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 With the Spring, Dacia wants to reproduce its sensational arrival on the European car market, but this time in electrics. Small and affordable, completely adapted to the city, the mechanics seem well oiled before their arrival in spring 2021. When Dacia enters a market, it is to cut prices. The brand therefore intends to make volume and use proven parts for its vehicles. However, Dacia must think about European restrictions on tailpipe emissions. Like other manufacturers, the Romanian firm is therefore thinking of electricity. A technology which remains in the minority in terms of sales volumes and whose battery is expensive. An electric Dacia therefore seems to be a complicated challenge. But Dacia has indeed decided to launch with the Spring. This 3.73-meter-long, high-legged mini-city car with a crossover look at 1.51 meters in height, runs only on electricity and does not intend to explode the bill. In order to achieve this, it does not start with a blank sheet, quite the opposite, as it relies on the strength of the Renault group, which released the KZ-E in China in 2019. It’s just her twin sister, with a few details. The diamond replaced by the Dacia crest and here it is about to enter the European market in spring 2021. The technical base, the CMF-A platform, is not new and can also be found on the Renault Kwid, thermal this time, but only sold in India. Regarding the battery, no modification either and a size necessarily contained but still very correct with a capacity of 26.8 kWh. This is more than the 22 kWh of the slightly shorter Twingo Electric (3.62 m). Thus, the Spring has a greater autonomy than that of the small French: 225 km in the combined cycle against 190 km and 295 km in the city according to the WLTP standard. If the Twingo is already proving attractive with an initial price of € 21,350 and less than € 15,600 after deducting the bonus of 27% of its purchase price, the Dacia Spring will undoubtedly be even stronger. As its price has not yet been formalized, it should be around € 16,000… excluding bonuses. The € 10,000 mark would not be very far, to make it the cheapest electric on the market.
