[Auto] Land Rover updates the Evoque and Discovery Sport with new versions

Land Rover has been one of the last manufacturers to join the electrification. The English firm has had to update its offer based on large investments and it has not been until now that Tata Group has been able to focus on this task. However, they have regained their rhythm, since they have been chaining releases for several months. The latter affected the Discovery Sport range, as it included the P300e plug-in hybrid version in its offer.

Now it returns to the first pages of news with the update of two of its most important models. On the one hand we have the Discovery Sport, the key that opens the Land Rover range. On the other hand there is the Evoque, which performs the same function in the Range Rover catalog. But be careful, that this subtle renovation is not visible to the naked eye, because beyond new finishes and decorations, the interesting thing is under its hood and affects its mechanics.

Land Rover introduces cleaner and more efficient mechanics to the Evoque and Discovery Sport

Because Evoque and Discovery Sport share the PTA platform, the brand can employ a common mechanical range. Thus, both models debut the 2.0 Ingenium MHEV diesel block with turbo and 48-volt electrical network. As it happened before, it is split into two versions, although the power level is increased. Thus, the offer will open the D165 with 165 HP of power and will close the more performance D200 with the same number of horses.

Regarding the electrical part, the motor is connected to the thermal propeller by a belt. It is powered by a battery that, in turn, is connected to the 48-volt electrical system. Its operation can be in three ways: to help the heat engine in acceleration phases, to charge the battery or to manage stop and start maneuvers. All this means that consumption is lower than in other diesel.

In gasoline there are also news. The Evoque offer welcomes the new P160 embodied in a 1.5 Ingenium three-cylinder block with 160 hp and 260 Nm of maximum torque. This shares technical solutions with the rest of the mechanics of the family, such as the twin turbo. For its part, the Discovery Sport releases the 2.0 Ingenium block with 290 hp, called P290, to give life to the special Black Edition version.

 

The Evoque debuts Autobiography version and the new Black arrives at Discovery Sport

As far as finishes are concerned, the Evoque receives the most exclusive and luxurious version called Autobiography. The Discovery Sport also presents new features, as it adds to the range the special Black Edition version. On an aesthetic level, it does not involve major changes, beyond including new wall lights or decorative elements in the body and interior. Where there are changes is in the technological level, which improves to get closer to its rivals.

Thus, both models equip the new PiVi infotainment system. Thanks to the integration of a SIM card, they are connected to the internet, being able to perform functions that were not present before. The most important has to do with the possibility of receiving updates over the air without having to go to the workshop. In addition, it optionally has a satellite navigation system or pre-installation of Spotify.

In terms of safety, Evoque and Discovery Sport receive aids such as the rear collision monitor or Advanced Driver Assistance assisted driving system for the second. Finally, they incorporate a new air conditioning system that filters the air in the passenger compartment. Now it has more powerful filters, helping to retain larger particles, allergens, pollen and even strong odors.

 

When will they hit the market?

Land Rover is now accepting orders for the Evoque Autobiography and Discovery Sport Black Edition for the UK. The rest of the markets where they are available will receive them before the fourth quarter of the year begins. Therefore, it will not take long to know what official prices they will have for our country. In the meantime, we will have to wait for the configurator to have more details.
