Former Brazilian star Ronaldinho has been released after more than five months in detention in Paraguay on charges of entering the country with a false travel neighborhood.

Investigating judge Gustavo Amaria also decided to release Ronaldinho's brother, Roberto de Assis Moreira, who was charged with the same charges.

The two brothers were detained on the sixth of last March in connection with this case.

The judge said: "Ronaldinho is free to travel to any country in the world he pleases, but he must inform in the event that he changes his permanent residence."

He added, "From now on, Ronaldinho's freedom is not subject to any restrictions except for the payment of social damages," and he asked the Brazilian star to pay a fine of $ 90,000 in this regard.

Ronaldinho, a 50-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain player and Italian former AC Milan, and his brother arrived in Asunción on March 4 from Brazil and brought their passports to the immigration police, who did not immediately notice any problems with the documents.

Hours later, when the fraud was noticed, the police raided the hotel where the 2005 Golden Ball winner was staying, promoting a book and attending conferences sponsored by charities interested in disadvantaged children, and found the forged passports.

The investigation has since expanded to include a possible money laundering case.

After about a month behind bars, Ronaldinho and his brother moved, on April 7, to the finally rehabilitated Palmagora Hotel in 2019, which is located in a building built at the beginning of the twentieth century in Asunción, after paying a bail of about $ 1.6 million.

18 people have been arrested in connection with the case, most of them immigration officials or police officers.

Ronaldinho is one of the most prominent players in the history of football, and he won almost all the titles available to him from the 2002 World Cup, Copa America, Confederations Cup, European Champions League, Spanish and Italian League, and the Golden Ball.
