[Auto] Geely Preface: Volvo's essence and technology at the service of the Chinese

The automotive sector in China is so vast that many of its novelties go unnoticed in Europe. However, we cannot forget about such relevant manufacturers as Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Yes, the new "boss" of Volvo is articulating a range of models that without the help of the Swedish firm could never have. All thanks to the money he once put on the table to raise it up and from which he now reaps the fruits.

To illustrate this we have the Geely Preface, a really interesting D-segment saloon. Perhaps if you look closely at it, it sounds familiar, because the brand's design team has been inspired by a model that we know well in Europe. We refer, how could it be otherwise, to the latest generation of the Volvo S60. If you don't believe it, keep reading, because between one and the other there will be very few differences, especially technical ones.

The Geely Preface is built on Volvo's CMA platform

On a technical level, the new Geely Preface is mounted on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. Thanks to the use of this modern and flexible base, you will have a mechanical offer made up of three and four cylinder petrol blocks from the organ bank of the Swedish house. But in addition, you can also introduce in the range (if they believe it necessary) versions with plug-in hybrid technology.

On an aesthetic level, the resemblance to the S60 and the latest Volvo launches is more than evident. However, the Preface arises from the conceptual exercise that Geely presented at the last Shanghai Auto Show in 2019. Thus, between the prototype and the model that reaches the production line there are differences such as the loss of the suicide-opening rear doors or a downhill roofline in true coupe style.

Of the interior of the Geely Preface there are no images, although it gives us in the nose that its design scheme will be known. To this must be added that its level of quality and fit of materials will be supervised directly by Volvo itself. The technological and safety capacity is beyond doubt, as the Preface will make use of each and every one of the latest advances made by the Swedish house.

If you liked the Geely Preface, we are sorry to give you bad news: it will not reach Europe for now. Perhaps later the opportunity may arise, although it would enter into direct competition with the S60. Its manufacture will take place at Geely's technical center located in Hangzhou (China). A shame, because such a model would enliven the segment of the medium saloons and would force the brands to put the batteries.
