Hossam Taibi
Most GTA fans agree that Grand Theft Auto 6 is probably on the way—eventually. But as we go longer and longer without any official announcements about GTA 6, we are starting to lose confidence. What is going on with Grand Theft Auto 6? Should we really be making assumptions about the future of the franchise? Let’s take a look at some of the signs that big changes are on the horizon. At This Point, We Have No Idea What is Going On With Grand Theft Auto 6 First of all, it has been ages since we got GTA V in 2013. But we expected a long gap before GTA 6 even then. Still, how much longer will we have to wait? And let’s consider some of the things that have changed in the meantime. First of all, there have been major personnel changes over at Rockstar Games. GTA lead developer Leslie Benzies left in 2016. Now, we no longer even have co-founder Dan Houser working at Rockstar. And as of this month, GTA writer, producer and radio station host Lazlow Jones is also gone. Another cause for concern is how successful GTA Online is. While it is awesome that GTA Online is thriving, one wonders if Rockstar might be more invested in continuing to pour resources into GTA Online rather than into GTA 6. Finally, we also have to consider how the real world has been changing over recent years. Traditionally, Grand Theft Auto parodies real life. But over the past few years, the real world has practically turned into a parody of itself. How does one parody that which already seems borderline unbelievable? Just making a GTA game now would be a creative challenge in a way that it would not have been previously. None of this means that a GTA 6 game won’t be made. It just means that what we expect could differ significantly from what we get. GTA 6 could be much different from its predecessors. Keep checking our GTA news section for more updates.
