The Medical College of Peru (CMP), Mayor Jorge Muñoz and various experts criticized the return of compulsory immobilization on Sundays. Martos defended the government's decision.
The president of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, ruled out that the Government applies a strategy of isolation of certain jurisdictions with a higher concentration of COVID-19 cases (epidemiological fence) instead of mandatory immobilization. He explained that the measure is not viable due to the stage of the pandemic that we are experiencing.

"The strategy of epidemiological fence and isolation is used at the beginning of a pandemic, when there are very few infected," said the prime minister in dialogue with "Canal N".

During the week, the Peruvian Medical College (CMP), the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz, and various experts criticized the government's decision to return to mandatory immobilization on Sundays. Instead, they recommended isolating the areas with the highest concentration of coronavirus cases; that is, to implement an epidemiological fence.

Martos pointed out that, although these measures may work at an early stage, today they are not viable, because, he said, "we are experiencing a second wave of infections and we do not have the resources to do so.

“It is very difficult to carry out this type of strategy when the contagion is already community, because we would have to isolate large numbers of the po[CENSORED]tion and have large isolation and control centers with logistical support, which becomes impossible when the level of contagion is very high. ”, He explained.

"These types of strategies are used when there is a very low level of contagion, it can be detected early and sufficient molecular tests are available, as South Korea did, to identify the positives and isolate them," he added.

Instead, Martos favored mandatory immobilization actions that the government has taken, such as the recent reinstatement of traffic restrictions on Sundays.

"In the past, the immobilization of Sundays has served a lot, that is why when we have lifted the restriction on Sundays and shopping centers have been opened and visits to relatives have begun, this second wave of infections has come," he noted .

“There is a team of experts that is monitoring the pandemic and that has seen the number of infections that have originated from this type of visit. A large number of people who are relatives are entering the hospitals, which means that the infections are being carried out between relatives, ”he said.
