The innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, IDB Lab, and venture capital firm Angel Ventures announced this Wednesday the eighth edition of WeXChange, a forum aimed at women entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), which this time will be virtual. According to the organizers, the forum will be held virtually, as part of the new normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on November 10, 11 and 12 with the support of the Financing Initiative for Women Entrepreneurs ( We-Fi). Contest category This year's competition has two categories: Seed (startups that have at least one minimum viable product and have achieved initial traction in the market), and Pre-Series A, Series A / B (startups that have validated their product- market fit and are positioned to scale the company regionally or globally). Six finalists will be selected for each category and will make a pitch before the jury of international investors. Then, the IDB Lab will choose a finalist in the Series A / B category that will receive financing of up to US $ 1 million (in capital investment, SAFE, convertible note or debt). While two finalists in the Seed category will be selected to access a fast track in the selection process of 500 Startups Latam for their potential participation in the seed capital acceleration and investment program. Finally, the contestants in both categories will also have premium access to regional venture capital funds such as ALLVP, Carao Ventures, Cometa, Dila Capital, Magma Partners, Maya Capital, NXTP Ventures and Vulcano for consideration of potential investment due diligence. The organizers added that, with this forum for female entrepreneurs, they will have the opportunity to expand their network of contacts, access mentors and investors, receive training on key issues to develop their startups. The objective of the “Women STEMpreneurs Competition” is to identify and recognize ventures that have at least one woman in the founding team, with a strong component of technology and innovation, and with the potential to achieve scale and social and / or environmental impact.
