On July 7, 1977, a new movie from the James Bond saga was released in London: "The Spy Who Loved Me," starring Roger Moore and the spectacular Barbara Bach. But the real star of the film was the also impressive Lotus Esprit S1 which, in addition to weapons, had the ability to become a submarine.

The fantastic car designed by Giorgetto Giugiario equipped a aspirated two-liter four-cylinder engine, which produced 160 horsepower, managed by a manual gearbox of five. Although it was not too much power for a sports car, the weight / power ratio was good considering that the car was weighing less than 900 kilos thanks to the use of a fiberglass body.

In 2013, the film's submersible white Lotus Esprit was purchased by Elon Musk for $ 866,000. A year later, Musk indicated that he was working on his own amphibious car project, which would be similar to the James Bond Esprit, but larger. Back in 2017, he scrapped the idea of replicating the Lotus design, but not of producing an amphibious car.

As a way to honor the 1977 Esprit S1 on the 43rd anniversary of the film's debut, Lotus photographed its iconic model alongside its future supercar, the Evija, unveiled a few months ago globally.

The Evija is powered by four electric motors, one per wheel and each of 493 HP, which together deliver 1,973 horsepower, enough for a 0 to 100 km / h in less than three seconds, a 0-200 in less six and 0-300 in less than 9 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km / h.

Thanks to a carbon fiber mucus, it weighs less than 1,700 kilos, many of them from a lithium-ion battery capable of delivering a range of about 400 kilometers, and a full recharge capacity in 9 minutes, provided that a 800 kW super charger that has not yet been developed.

The Evija is already in production and Lotus will manufacture only 130 units, almost all of them sold at a price that starts at two million dollars.
