#Steeven.™ Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 Ecuador borders the 68,000 infections confirmed by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, with a significant rise in the capital, Quito, since last June 3, when the transition from isolation to social distancing began, through an epidemiological traffic light. According to official statistics this Sunday, there are 67,870 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country through rapid tests and PCR, that is to say 661 more than on Saturday. The number of deaths confirmed by the resulting disease, COVID-19, increased by 16 to 5,047, while the "probable" deaths from this disease reached 3,292, in official statistics. Since the first case was officially reported on February 29, a total of 182,523 tests have been taken, between PCR and rapid tests in Ecuador, inhabited by more than 17 million people. According to these samples, 91,973 cases have been ruled out, while 5,900 patients recovered from the disease and another 8,842 were discharged from hospital. Of the 24 provinces of Ecuador, the coastal of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, continues to lead the highest number of cases, 16,480, which represents 27.97% nationwide, followed by Pichincha, with the city of Quito. As head, which gathers 10,673, 18.12% of infections, 258 more cases than on Saturday. QUITO The capital, Quito, started on June 3 a new stage of de-escalation and went from red to yellow at the epidemiological traffic light, which has resulted in the partial resumption of public transport and increased commercial and labor activity on the streets of the city, inhabited by about three million people. However, the incessant contagion rate in the capital keeps it under some limitations despite being in yellow, such as the closing of theaters and cinemas or the suspension of inter-provincial transport, among other measures. When Quito turned yellow at the epidemiological traffic light, the Pichincha province accumulated 13% of cases nationwide, now it exceeds 18%. The increase in cases in Pichincha, concentrated mainly in Quito (9,670), led the authorities to redouble controls to avoid crowds and clandestine parties, among others. The provinces of Guayas and Pichincha are followed by infections in infections: Manabí with 5,110, Los Ríos (2,598), Esmeraldas (2,523), El Oro (2,354), Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas (2,554), Azuay (2,262), Tungurahua (1,479), Cotopaxi (1,472), Loja (1,323) and Morona Santiago (1,286). The rest of the Ecuadorian provinces, including the Galápagos territorial district (100 cases), register less than a thousand confirmed, although the province of Santa Elena reaches 988 confirmed infections, that of Chimborazo 980, that of Pastaza 962 and that of Orellana, 921. Since last month, Ecuador is in a process of de-escalation of the restrictions in its epidemiological strategy to face the pandemic of COVID-19. This means moving from mass isolation to physical distancing with the lifting of human mobility limitations, which entered into force with the state of emergency on March 16, and which has been extended on several occasions by the president, Lenín Moreno, the last June 15 for an additional 60 days. 3
