[Sport] The keys to Atletico's takeoff: from panic in April to Costa's redemptive shoulder

On April 16, the least of it was football. It was disrespectful to talk about it, submerged as the country was in the middle of the battle against the coronavirus. On that day, Sanidad reported 551 deaths, pending data from Catalonia. But life had to go on, as it has. So, at lunchtime, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) announced that, in case LaLiga could not resume, Atletico stayed out of the Champions League. The last valid classification was that 8 March. And in it, the Red-White were sixth, after Barcelona, Real Madrid, Seville, Real Sociedad and Getafe. Seeing the evolution of the virus, no one could 100 percent assure that the competition could start over. Nor, if re-started, could be completed. Even if, if completed, as is finally going to be, those of Simeone were able to lift the flight and fulfill that obligation, already made a healthy habit, which is to go religiously to the Champions League.

In the dome of the red-white club, with the Metropolitan's offices closed by the pandemic, the RFEF's decision barely uneasyed. Despite the general uncertainty, there was already a plan with which to resume competition and seek that Champions Square indispensable for the good economic health of the entity. This season, the more than 40 million fixed (not counting the market pool) are even more necessary than usual, because of the rushes of the impact of the coronavirus. Three months later, and with two matches of advancement, Diego Costa sealed that ticket to the Top European competition with his shoulder for the eighth consecutive season. A routine that has involving more than 400 million for athletic coffers since 2013. And just a day after the Champions League hype taught them an attractive path to the final. Leipzig, one side of the benevolent painting and a whole month to fine-tune the machinery. Maybe a little less, because Simeone won't lower his arms until next Sunday or until Atletico has grabbed the third rung of LaLiga. A simple matter of pride.

In these nine matches following the restart, Atlético has changed some of the arguments he showed until that 27th day in which football stopped. Hence the accelerator to a rough-looming goal back in March. Only Real Madrid has scored more points.
