The president of Confiep, María Isabel León, highlighted the need for governments to improve the regulatory environment to incentivize the creation of new jobs to overcome the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

“The private sector is essential for the recovery of employment and consumption, as well as for investment and innovation, but this requires the support of governments to create and facilitate an environment conducive to the resilience and growth of the private sector that generates decent and productive jobs ”, he pointed out in his presentation at the ILO Global Summit on COVID-19.

In this sense, María Isabel León specified that it is time to eliminate the regulations that affect business growth, when facing this serious situation.

Furthermore, she considered that while companies focus on creating more jobs, it is essential to serve vulnerable po[CENSORED]tions.

“This is a setback that we did not foresee and that forces us to dedicate immediate resources to poverty alleviation at the same time that policies are made and decisions are made that we have often avoided taking so that the private sector becomes the great driver of the economy, "he said.

The ILO Global Summit on COVID-19 and the World of Work addresses the effects of the pandemic on the world of work, in which representatives of governments, employers and workers, together with other high-level stakeholders, discuss on the economic and social incidence of the disease.
