Active safety systems become standard Redesigned front and rear fascias LED headlights and taillights standard Ability to disable engine start/stop system People Also Ask Is the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse a full-size SUV? The Traverse is classified as a midsize SUV. At over 204 inches long, however, it is among the largest in its class. Is the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse a good vehicle? Yes. The Traverse is larger and more spacious than competing midsize SUVs, and now includes key active safety features as standard. Does the 2022 Traverse have three rows? Yes, all new Chevy Traverse models have three rows. There is total seating for eight passengers when configured with a 2nd-row bench seat, or 7-passenger seating when the second row is configured with captain’s chairs. Where is the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse made? The Traverse is made in America, specifically at GM’s factory in Lansing, Michigan. Overview The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse competes in the heart of the family-SUV market. Its rivals include other po[CENSORED]r 3-row crossover SUVs like the Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, and Honda Pilot, plus newer upstarts such as the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. The Traverse has an advantage over rivals in size and cargo capacity. It is larger than competitors, and, thanks to a price that historically starts lower, appeals to families and active individuals who appreciate a lot of metal for the money. Seating for up to eight, a standard V6 engine, and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds are also appealing. With its update for 2022, the Chevy Traverse has rectified prior downsides. Notably, all models now include a suite of active safety features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and pedestrian detection, just like rivals. We also appreciate that its engine start/stop system can finally be disabled with the press of a button. Adaptive cruise control — standard on several rivals — still costs extra and there isn’t a hybrid option like in the Highlander and Explorer. But with this year’s updates, the Traverse now competes nearly toe-to-toe with leaders in this segment. Driving the Chevrolet Traverse Whether its mission is shuttling the soccer team, serving as a work commuter, or ferrying your family on a road trip, we expect the latest Chevrolet Traverse to again be capable and comfortable. Like nearly every other 3-row crossover SUV with the exception of maybe the Mazda CX-9 or Ford Explorer ST, Traverse models haven’t been known as exactly athletic. But that isn’t the point of such an SUV. As a family hauler, we’ve found past models of the Traverse quiet and roomy enough to keep squabbling siblings at bay. (Stay tuned for official driving impressions after we get behind the wheel of the 2022 version.) The Traverse’s V6 has impressed us in the past with its good power, and works well with the standard 9-speed automatic transmission. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds, similar to competitors like the Kia Telluride and Toyota Highlander. For its 2022-model-year update, the Traverse is rectifying one of our former gripes: You can now disable the idle start/stop system that shuts off the engine at stoplights. There is a button to do so below the gear selector, to the right of the electronic parking brake switch and near the drive-mode dial. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Interior Class-leading interior space is among the Traverse’s highlights and a reason for its po[CENSORED]rity with growing families. All Traverse models have three rows of seats. With the standard 2nd-row bench, there is seating for eight passengers. If you choose the more comfortable twin captain’s seats in the second row, there’s room for seven. The last row is best suited for kids. Up front, the driver and passenger seats do well at accommodating a variety of body shapes. The Traverse’s layout and technology don’t feel as fresh as a Kia Telluride with its widescreen display and airy feel, but the Chevy’s functions are logical and simple to use. Common things like climate and audio are controlled by dials and buttons. New this year is an optional 8-inch digital display in the instrument cluster that complements the standard central touchscreen display. The 2022 Traverse also gets a nice tech upgrade with available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A twin-panel sunroof is also available, as is a new rear power sunshade. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Exterior Stretching over 204 inches, the Traverse is the big kid among the midsize SUV class. That is nearly 10 inches longer than a Toyota Highlander and a reason for the Traverse’s impressive interior space. For 2022, the Traverse gets a mild exterior freshening with a revised grille, updated front and rear fascias, and more aggressive LED headlight signatures. RS Traverse models have a sportier look, while High Country models are flashier with chrome and 20-inch wheels. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Standard Features The Chevrolet Traverse includes a V6 engine, multi-zone climate control, touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and USB ports in all three rows – great for charging digital devices. A full suite of active safety systems is also now standard (see Favorite Features), as is GM’s subscription-based OnStar connected services with 4G LTE and in-vehicle Wi-Fi. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Options All-wheel drive (AWD) can be had in lieu of the standard front-wheel drive. Stepping up trims brings amenities like leather upholstery, a power liftgate, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and upgraded audio. The Rear Camera Mirror is a neat feature that enables the rearview mirror to project a live and unobstructed view via the use of a camera. Heated and ventilated front seats are available on higher trims, as is wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Adaptive cruise control is now available on more trims, starting at the LT level. A new Safety Alert Seat that vibrates the driver’s seat to warn of a danger — like backing up too close to an object – is standard on Premier and High Country models. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Engine The Traverse uses a 3.6-liter V6 that makes an ample 310 horsepower. The engine is tied to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Traverse comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional and a good choice if you live where it snows or roads can be slick. For maximum traction, the Traverse High Country adds a dual-clutch transfer system that can automatically adjust the amount of torque going to each rear wheel, further preventing slippage. The Chevy Traverse SUV is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds when optioned with the trailering package. The 2022 Traverse has an engine idle start/stop feature that can now be disabled. 3.6-liter V6 310 horsepower @ 6,800 rpm 266 lb-ft of torque @ 2,800 rpm EPA city/highway fuel economy: N/A How Much Does the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse Cost? When it goes on sale in the third quarter of 2021, we expect the new Chevrolet Traverse to have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting around $30,000. On the other end of the Traverse spectrum, a loaded all-wheel-drive High Country model is likely to reach the high $50,000 range. The Chevy Traverse’s price has traditionally undercut rivals by a bit. For comparison, a 2020 Honda Pilot starts around $32,000, as do the Ford Explorer, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade. Subaru’s Ascent, which comes with all-wheel drive, also starts around $32,000. The Toyota Highlander starts closer to $35,000. It has traditionally trailed rivals like the Highlander, Ascent, and Pilot. Blind-spot monitoring This optional feature warns the driver of other vehicles in the Traverse’s side blind spots.
