Honda will decide on a timetable for reopening its UK factory in Swindon on May 8, the automaker said in an internal memo to suppliers seen by Bloomberg News.

Honda halted production at the plant in mid-March.

The automaker builds the Civic compact car in Swindon, according to Automotive News Europe's Plant Assembly Map. It plans to make 430 cars a day, the company said in the memo.

A Honda spokesman said a decision to restart production will be "reviewed in line with ongoing advice from the UK government as well as market and supply conditions."

Honda is closing the plant permanently in 2021 as part of a global restructuring.
