Potential effects of Asante Kotoko's transfer ban if they fail to pay Esperance

Asante Kotoko are on the brink of copping a transfer ban from FIFA should they fail to pay Tunisian giants Esperance $240,000 by next month as fine for the violations on the transfer of Emmanuel Clottey. The fallout from Asante Kotoko's impending transfer ban is likely to have damaged their brand.Kotoko are one of the leading clubs in Ghana and Africa following success chalked over the years. But off the pitch, their brand could be tainted after the news that the world football governing body is on the verge of slapping them with a transfer ban.The embargo will imposed if the Porcupine Warriors instead of the relegation which was the verdict in the initial ruling which prompted Kotoko to appeal the decision.FIFA insisted that Kotoko must make the make full payment of $180,000 fee to the Tunisian giants regarding Emmanuel Clottey’s transfer.Asante Kotoko have also been told to fork out $45,000 as interest to the North Africa powerhouse, and also an additional $15,000 to the committee that sat on the case, totaling the figures of the money to $240,000.The effect of the developments on the club’s image and reputation means they now risk missing out on vital sponsorship income, which would hit future transfer budgets for new players once the ban is over. The embargo compounds a myriad of challenges facing the Kumasi-based outfit behind the scenes, not least Dr Kwame Kyei’s future with the club, which remains shrouded in uncertainty. The Kumasi-based giants have been instructed to make full payment by 17th May, 2020 which is one month exactly to the day the decision was made."If payment is not made to the Creditor and proof of such a payment is not provided to the secretariat to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and to the Ghana Football Association by the deadline."a) "A ban from registering new players, either nationally or internationally, will be imposed on Debtor II. Once the deadline has expired, the transfer ban will be implemented automatically at the national and international level by the Ghana Football Association and FIFA respectively, without a further formal decision having to be taken nor any other to be issued by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee or its secretariat. The transfer ban shall cover all men eleven-a-side teams of the Debtor - first team and youth categories - Debtor II shall be able to register new players, either nationally or internationally, only upon the payment to the Creditor of the total outstanding amount. In particular, Debtor II may not make use of the exception and the provisional measures sti[CENSORED]ted in article 6 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players in order to register players at an earlier stage.b) "The Creditor may demand, in writing to the secretariat of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, that the matter be resubmitted to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, so that a ban on taking part in any kind football-related activity be imposed on the Debtor I."
