Stuttgart and Affalterbach (the A in AMG) recently offered a facelift to their GT and its topless version, the GT Roadster. On the menu: small, well-evolved evolutions and the appearance of a new variant, the very radical Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro. An all-round pistarde to the body kit fitting with GT3 regulations and which will only be produced in 750 copies!

If money has no smell, the Silver Arrow that is the Mercedes-AMG GT exudes a strong scent of victory. Like its august elders, the Mercedes single-seaters that dominated the pre-war Grands Prix, or the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, victorious in 1952 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Carrera Panamericana, today's Swabian sprinter has fulfilled with flying colors the mission assigned to him during the first part of his career: to become Stuttgart's other sporting benchmark, to exist in front of the Porsche 911, to offer fans of the genre an even spicier recipe than those of the variants AMG of the clan and SL sedans.

The esteem and commercial success of the AMG GT berlinette and roadster is one of the two reasons for the discretion of their "relifting". The second is structural: the Germans rarely carry out major restyling. We note, however, the new light signature and the rear bumper which encloses the tailpipes, also new (and arranged in the center on the most sporty versions. Mercedes has also redesigned the offer in terms of rims and enlarged the color chart with the appearance of a new shade, a spectacular “Magno blue”, that's about it.

The berlinette and roadster inherited the center console of the AMG GT 4-door and the screen above it. There is more to discuss on board since the Mercedes-AMG GT inherited the center console from its fake twin, the 4-door AMG GT, which appeared in 2018 in Geneva and was marketed from last summer, but also the 10.25 inch screen that overlooks it and the 12.3 inch screen that is used for digital instrumentation. The GT with twice as many openings also "shared" with its sister its sculptural steering wheel, equipped with touchpads (touchpads) to manage the functionality of the two screens.

Mechanical status quo :

At the underside, the designers of this restyled AMG GT have reprogrammed the stability control and recalibrated the suspension in an attempt to magnify the agility of their rocket.

On the other hand, the engines of pre-restyling were renewed without the least change. Not a horse in rab! Not even a pony… It must be said that the stables of the four variants of the V8 4.0 l biturbo were already crowded: 476 hp for the nicest of the AMG-GTs, 522 hp for the GT S, 557 hp for the GT C and 585 proud equine on the GT R as on the new declination in the catalog, the GT R Pro, inveterate pistarde with limited edition.

The AMG GT Roadster brings an extra glamorous touch to a silhouette that has never been lacking. The effect of the canvas top and the engine hood, which seems more plunging and more interminable than ever since he no longer has to suffer from the visual competition of the hard top (fixed) of the berlinette.

Only 750 copies of this GT R Pro are planned. To believe the characteristics of the beast, they should tear themselves away like hotcakes! Based on the already very sharp GT R, this declination is entitled to many prerogatives: its aero kit is even more exuberant than that of the GT R, its brake discs are made of ceramic carbon, its shock absorbers are mechanically adjustable (compression and rebound) as in competition, through selectors placed directly on the pistons. Adjustable are also the stabilizer bars at the front (carbon fiber) and at the rear (steel).

Pro-protein recipe…

Add to that forged rims, a bolted roll cage, AMG Performance carbon fiber seats, as well as several other structural parts using this material (the roof in particular), and you get a somewhat radical sport, stiffer and a little lighter than before. Finally a rival capable of showing the future Porsche 911 GT3 RS? To have !

In France, the price list for the Mercedes-AMG GT starts at 131,000 euros (around 1,500,000 DH) with the base GT and at 143,000 euros for the GT Roadster (around 1,650,000 DH), while the berlinette the most expensive, the GT R, peaks at 178,600 euros (more than 2,100,000 DH), or 3,800 euros more than the GT R Roadster. Finally, the GT R Pro is expected to debut in Geneva and has not yet posted its price.
