AymenGhost. Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 (edited) Fans of compact SUVs capable of tracing back to GTs will be served on BMW's Geneva stand, with the X3 and X4 M, which, not content to embark under their hood a six-in-line 480 hp, promise more muscle with a 510 hp Competition variant that can already be ordered. Just to invite yourself to the table of the Alfa Stelvio QV and the Mercedes GLC 63 AMG S ... Technically, this is the second time that Motorsport, the sporting division of BMW, has looked into the case of the compact SUVs of the X clan. Indeed, an M Performance variant, the M40i, appeared in 2015, namely a year after the launch of the first generation of the X4, and was renewed on its substitute, revealed (early) in 2018. The third generation of the X3, unveiled in 2017, for its part, was also entitled to this high-performance version . Only, there is a world of difference between a BMW M Performance and a pure and hard M. Compare the technical data sheets of the two models we are interested in to those of the X3 and X4 M40i. While the 3.0 biturbo inline six-cylinder M Performance variants displays a power of 360 hp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm, that which prevails under the hood of the little brothers of the X5 and X6 M benefits from 120 hp and 100 Nm additional. It’s very simple! Never before has a production BMW had to deal with such a powerful six-cylinder! The previous “rekordmeister” in this area was the M2 Competition and its 410 hp! Coupled with the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel drive - extrapolated from that of the last M5, it has a Sport mode favoring the rear axle, but does without the Propulsion mode of icon -, this new punch Bavarian allows the X3 and X4 M to seek stratospheric performance: the 0 to 100 km / h is shipped in 4.2 s in both cases, while the Vmax, electronically restrained at 250 km / h, can be worn , optional, at 280 km / h. In order to absorb this surge of power and force, so that the undercarriages and the ground connections of the newborns have been deeply overhauled: more radical suspensions, piloted shock absorbers, composite brakes, active rear differential ... The BMW touch As desirable as they are, with their suggestive body kits, these two tall legged sprinters bow to an Alfa Stelvio QV or a Mercedes GLC 63 AMG S in terms of power and pure performance. The two rivals of the Bavarian spiers have blocks of 510 hp. And if the Milanese champion displays, like the X3 and X4 M, a maximum torque of 600 Nm, that of Stuttgart has 700 Nm. Suddenly, it is not less than four tenths more than claim the Munich champions to complete the from 0 to 100. This is why at the same time as the first info and photos of the two models which we have been talking about for a bit, BMW announced that a Competition variant, having exactly the same power as its two most frontal rivals (510 ch), was already in the pipeline and it was even possible to order it without further delay. That said, even this variant will not fill the gap on 0 to 100 km / h, credited that it is 4.1 s on this exercise. However, it will allow the propeller SUVs to compete in maximum speed (285 km / h, against 283 for the Alfa and 280 for the Merco). You have to put things in context. The frantic race to the hundredth of a second has never been in BMW's DNA, unlike concepts like road feel, behavior at the start and end of the curve, drift ... In this, these X3 and X4 M should be more like the Porsche Macan Turbo, which only 440 hp, while being a thrill factory. Edited April 9, 2020 by -Dark Closed topic / Complete 1 day 1
