By dint of being outdistanced by its rival BMW 5 Series, the new Audi A6 retorts by adopting a new fully digital cockpit, decked out in electronics and digital assistants… Suddenly, it has so metamorphosed that we are even tried to forgive him for his late arrival in the Kingdom, one year after its commercialization in Europe.

The competition between premium touring cars is raging. To seduce, manufacturers are constantly adding high-tech equipment and gadgets to it, aimed at making them even more sophisticated than ever. It is the digital revolution which invites itself within the automobile by means of giant screens, perfected, ultra-connected and which obey the finger and the eye, so as to reduce driving to a simple formality .

To multiply well-being on board, the digital surge is no longer a quarter: the innovations, as soon as revealed by a very high-end vehicle, are immediately duplicated in a lower-ranking model. This is precisely the case of the Audi A6 which, by looking more and more towards the prestigious Audi A8, has ended up taking over almost the entire electronic, digital and technical arsenal. The newcomer thus aims to offer comfort equivalent to that of its big sister, to which it owes the platform and the mechanical architecture, which it now displays measurements largely revised upwards. If the length points to 4.93 m (+6 mm), the interior wheelbase is also subject to good inflation (+12 mm). This results in a generous space and a rather relaxed atmosphere, but before taking a seat on board, let us review the most significant aesthetic changes.

Style interference :

At first glance, the architecture of the A6, still faithful to the attributes of a large saloon sedan, sports a more elegant silhouette. The famous single frame grille, wider with sharp corners, is still part of the decor, as is the massive shield flanked by air intakes on the sides and a discreet lower aerodynamic blade. On the other hand, the fine shape of the lights does not change much, but their interior graphics create a more distinctive signature. To underline its high-end stature, the rear part accommodates a chrome strip connecting the optical units, while the profile highlights its length, as we have said, prominent, accompanied by overhangs revised downwards, history of reducing the turning radius and, therefore, facilitate handling in the city ... The interference of this new style between the classic, sporty and modern worlds, even invade the interior.

The interior of the A6 is a pleasant lounge in which all passengers will feel comfortable. Here, the ergonomics of the seats are impeccable, as is the choice of materials and the quality of finish. On the layout side, nothing to add, except that the brand with the rings remains faithful to its proverbial know-how. As for the storage spaces, the volume of the trunk remains unchanged, i.e. 530 liters, but its opening is now carried out with a simple movement of the foot under the rear bumper. Sumptuous, the interior atmosphere is nonetheless friendly with a rectangular dashboard combined with a king size center console, delimiting the two front seats. Equipped with digital instrumentation, Virtual Cockpit (available only on the S-Line finish), the cockpit resembles that of a Dreamliner. The two other screens of the MMI digital interface, placed in the middle of the board, are so intuitive that it is possible to activate a function without taking your eyes off the road. In addition, the driver manages the infotainment separately via the upper screen (10.1 ’’) on the MMI navigation plus system. Below, another screen (8.6 ’’) provides access to the air conditioning control, comfort functions and text entry. Not to mention the head-up display that projects important information onto the windshield. The MMI navigation plus system also includes Audi’s Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3 ’’ screen. Finally, the German flagship is available in three finishes: Premium, Business Line, S-Line.

TDI robust et sober :

Under the hood, the new Ingolstadt road car is available in two diesel versions, namely the A6 40 TDI, which develops 190 hp for a torque of 400 Nm and the A6 45 TDI delivering 249 hp for a torque of 600 Nm. two blocks are exclusively associated with the 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, whose double clutch greatly contributes to the reduction in consumption, which revolves around an average of 4.2 and 5.5 l / 100 km respectively. Thanks to its slightly firmer suspension and its direction which becomes more incisive as the speed increases, the handling should be better in more ways than one… This is what is expected of a big road like the 'A6, being at the same time handy in town, agile on small roads, and stable on motorways. Offered at 529,000 DH, the entry-level version of the A6 40 TDI Premium has most of the equipment. However, it overlooks the Virtual Cockpit and many other comfort devices, available only on the A6 40 TDI S-Line finish, which requires an envelope of DH 669,000. Even more full-bodied, the prices for the A6 45 TDI version peak at DH 689,000 (Business Line) and DH 769,000 (S-Line).
