If you have already bought a new car, you have most likely wanted to drive it all the time, each occasion becoming an excuse to take out your car and enjoy it. Rest assured, you are not alone, and some even push the vice to make a complete tour of the United States, just to take advantage of their new vehicle. This is indeed the story that our colleagues at Presse-Citron tell us, that of a resident of Maine, located in the north-east of the country, who decided to afford a journey of 18,000 km to reach his mother in California, just a few weeks before the arrival of the epidemic of Coronavirus on the territory, and the establishment of containment for certain States.

Don Louv, whose name had just taken possession of his new Porsche Taycan Turbo when he received an invitation from his dear mother to come and join her at her house in California, about 5000 km from Portland, where he lives currently. But as if this distance, the shortest distance to reach the two states, was not enough, this slightly mad traveler therefore decided to make the complete tour of the United States. Literally. And for good reason, leaving his hometown, he decided not to cross the continent but to make a loop all around, passing through the Canadian border, the east and west coasts, as well as the border with Mexico. In total, this journey will have lasted 46 days and more than 18,000 km, the opportunity to test this Porsche Taycan properly. As if that were not enough, Don Louv even offered himself a five-day stay in Hawaii, just after going to see his mother, probably to decompress halfway on this trip.

Almost 400 km per day

This new conquered owner also expressed himself in the columns of InsideEVs "A normal person would take the plane. Or else she would drive her very comfortable and well-equipped Sprinter Van. But I'm not normal, and I had just taken delivery of the Taycan. I love traveling by car, so I did some research and discovered that with the new networks of very fast charging stations from Petro-Canada and Electrify America, it was entirely possible. The trip then took a life apart, and became a way to visit dozens of friends along the way. " A great adventure that will have required traveling an average of 394 km each day, a distance roughly corresponding to the average range of the Porsche Taycan recorded by Don Louv.

But this extreme road trip was also an opportunity to test the charging network, which seems to have convinced our adventurer "This trip proves that a non-Tesla electric vehicle can be driven almost anywhere in the United States, and from coast to coast in Canada. The network is not perfect. It is not always fluid. It often takes two or three tries to start a recharge session. But in the end, it still works. ” The American is full of praise for his mount "The car is supremely quiet and comfortable. I could easily drive 8 or 10 hours a day without a problem. On the last day, I drove for 17 hours, covering more than 1,000 miles. If it were to be done again, I would absolutely do it again! "
