Seconds of panic in Aguascalientes: a woman stole a policeman's rifle and shot civilians

In Aguascalientes, a woman unleashed panic on Saturday night by stealing an assault rifle from a police patrol and starting firing at the drivers who were driving along the Immortal Hero Avenue.

The aggressor, who was identified as Gabriela N, aka "La Gaviota", 34, injured at least two people and caused damage to three police vehicles. According to the municipal Ministry of Public Security (SSP), he has a record for the crime of theft, and during the shooting he handled the firearm with skill.

"[I had] knowledge in the use of the firearm after subtracting it from inside the police unit, removing the insurance and cutting the cartridge to subsequently carry out the detonations against three units of the Police," the corporation told the Mexican newspaper El Universal .

Some witnesses recorded from their cars what happened and shared the videos on social networks. In the images, the attacker is seen next to a patrol car, holding the gun. "La Gaviota" shouts and threatens civilians and shoots vehicles that travel along the road. As the seconds pass, the number of detonations increases.

"Faced with such an emergency situation, and seeing his life in danger, the officers fired several shots at the aggressive woman, managing to neutralize her on 21st Century Avenue with Immortal Hero Avenue, causing her lower limb wounds," said the Ministry of Security Public

According to 911, the events occurred around 8:00 p.m., at which time they received the emergency call of a civilian who reported shooting at the crossing of the Immortal Hero Avenue and Artillero Mier Street, in the Morelos II neighborhood.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers cornered the assailant, and ordered him to drop the weapon. She, however, ignores the municipal elements, who fearing for her life and that of civilians, shoot her in the extremities to reduce her.

According to the SSP, “La Gaviota”, who would have acted under the influence of a narcotic drug, was transferred to the Third Millennium hospital as a detainee. In addition, the officers also arrested the man who accompanied her, and identified herself as Vicente "N", 42.

As for the injured civilians, the authorities confirmed that it is a marriage that was traveling with their children in the car. Teresa N, 41, was shot in the calf, while her partner, Rafael N, 43, was shot in the buttock. The two were transferred to the Hidalgo Hospital with their three children, aged between 3 and 7 years. Although the children were not injured, they did suffer anxiety crisis.
