Arunabh.ly__ Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 The 2G internet services will be restored in all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir from midnight. A resident said, "This will be a huge relief. In the age of connectivity, Kashmiri's were cut off from the world. The access to the government-provided kiosk is a struggle. At least checking mails for the official purpose will be possible. I just hope the connectivity will be restored completely soon." The social media applications will continue to remain out of bounds for the Valley's residents. A home department order issued late Friday stated, Access shall be limited to whitelisted sites and not to any social media applications allowing peer to peer communication and Virtual Private Network Application. The 2G mobile internet services were earlier restored in all ten districts of Jammu and two districts of Kashmir, Kupwara, and Bandipora. Further, voice call and SMS services have been restored for all pre-paid connections across the Union Territory, the principal secretary of J&K administration Rohit Kansal had said earlier. Telecom services were shut in the entire Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 when the Centre abrogated the special status to the erstwhile state and also bifurcated it into two Union Territories. However, the Supreme Court came down heavily on the UT administration for arbitrarily shutting down the internet, the facility described as the fundamental right by the court. 1
