Jose. Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 The Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings both won on the road to reach the second week of the NFL playoffs. The Seahawks beat the Philadelphia Eagles 17-9 after Marshawn Lynch and DK Metcalf touchdowns in each half. And Minnesota upset the NFC's number three seed, a Kyle Rudolph touchdown in overtime giving them a shock 26-20 win at the New Orleans Saints. Seattle now visit the Green Bay Packers in the NFC divisional round while the Vikings are at the San Francisco 49ers. Seahawks progress after Vikings upset Saints - as it happened Wentz injury derails Eagles While Philadelphia won the NFC East, Seattle finished the regular season with a better record and the Eagles suffered a host of injuries as they won their last four games to reach the play-offs. And they were dealt another huge blow on just their second drive as they lost quarterback Carson Wentz to a head injury, meaning 40-year-old back-up Josh McCown became the oldest player in NFL history to make his post-season debut. The two teams traded field goals before running back Lynch, who helped Seattle win Super Bowl 48 and only re-signed two weeks ago, barged over from five yards to give the Seahawks a 10-3 lead at the half. Philadelphia kicked field goals either side of Russell Wilson's 53-yard touchdown pass to Metcalf in the third quarter, but were unable to launch a late fightback. "We stayed consistent. We answered the call," Wilson said. "More than anything else we believe - there's no doubt in us." Saints shocked at the Superdome Meanwhile, the Saints were firm favourites to beat the Vikings having almost reached last year's Super Bowl and won this season's NFC South with a 13-3 record while the Vikings (10-6) earned a wildcard spot. But the visitors led 20-10 going into the final quarter, with Dalvin Cook scoring rushing touchdowns either side of the half after New Orleans' Alvin Kamara ran in the game's opening touchdown. Versatile back-up quarterback Taysom Hill gave the Saints hope, catching a 20-yard pass from Drew Brees with 10:37 left to become the first player in NFL history to register over 50 passing yards, over 50 rushing yards and over 25 receiving yards in a play-off game. And although Danielle Hunter forced Brees' first fumble of the season, the Saints had one more drive and Wil Lutz, who missed a 43-yard field goal right before half-time, made a 49-yard kick with two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Minnesota won the coin toss for the opening possession, knowing a touchdown would win it, and Kirk Cousins made a gutsy 43-yard throw to Adam Thielen before finding tight end Rudolph for a four-yard touchdown to seal the upset. That win was the second shock of wildcard weekend after the Tennessee Titans won 20-13 at the New England Patriots to knock out the defending champions. Like the Patriots' Tom Brady, veteran quarterback Brees is now out of contract and the 40-year-old's future is uncertain. "I'm not making any comments on that other than I've always just taken it one year at a time," he said. "I'll kind of re-evaluate each off-season and then find the things that I want to get better at and move on."
