Inkriql
Fifty-six years after its launch, what is the Porsche 911? Basically, a survivor. Highlander with wheels: an immortal sports car. And to think that in 1977, when the 928 was launched, in Porsche they had everything ready to stop manufacturing the 911. Retire it. Many thought it made no sense to make a sports car with the engine hanging behind the rear axle. Logic indicated that the future was a Gran Turismo, with a front engine and a more spacious cabin. If until 928 he was awarded as “Car of the Year in Europe”. However, 911 is like that old grandmother, who will end up burying us all. It is the Mirtha Legrand of sport cars: it has been more than 24 years since 928 went to the "other neighborhood" And 911 is still there. Since then, Porsche has greatly expanded its range. Today it has the most varied offer in its history. But no one would think to speak again of a "replacement" for 911. The eighth generation of the Mick Jagger with wheels has already been presented in Argentina. And keep asking for rock and roll. *** When a car with 450 horsepower and a price of between 268 thousand and 373 thousand dollars is launched for sale in Argentina, the most normal thing is that they show it parked inside an event hall. So, all you can do is look at it and take some pictures. At the most, you will be able to sit in the driver's seat and take a selfie, to immortalize the moment. But not much else. With the new 911, Porsche Argentina broke all those schemes. The importer Nordenwagen decided to celebrate his 25 years as a representative of the German brand with a spectacular party: he rented the Autodromo de La Plata in mid-June and, for six days, 300 people passed - between clients and guests - to try the full range of Models on the Mouras track. The event was called Porsche World RoadShow (PWRS) and there we could do more than take a selfie with 911. We handled it thoroughly. The PWRS is a kind of itinerant troupe very similar to Cirque du Soleil. A team of 20 pilot-instructors and 30 cars - with spare parts, tires, signage and a lot of merchandising - travels the world with an unforgettable staging: they offer you the opportunity to test in a safe environment the full range of models, accelerating thoroughly on pavement and off-road (for the Cayenne and Macan). Bringing the PWRS to Argentina and taking over the Mouras for a week was a million-dollar investment from Nordenwagen, but profitable. After a full day of adrenaline on the track, they may seem expensive or cheap, but you have no doubts: you want one in your garage. It is the best way to sell a Porsche. *** The new 911 eighth generation was nicknamed "992". It is to distinguish it from the previous model, called "991". That seventh generation had a crucial change in the middle of life: the so-called 991.2 democratized the turbo in all versions (not only in the legendary variant "Turbo"), with the exception of some special atmospheric series, for collectors. It is not easy to differentiate 992 from 991. Here there was no breakthrough jump, as when you went from Model G to 993. You have to look carefully at the tube. Now the lower air intakes form a wide and uniform "black mouth." In addition, the headlights have four LEDs that draw an X in each optic. The side is very classic: the unmistakable silhouette of 911. And behind it is distinguished by a uniform led strip, from side to side, with two vertical LEDs - as if they were "quotes" - for the brake lights. It does not seem so, but 992 is longer, wider and taller than 991. Not much. Just enough to gain a little more space in the cabin. *** And it is that in the cabin there are much more changes than outside. Not only is it more comfortable, spacious and bright. A large part of the commands and instruments were also digitized. When the contact is off, the instrument panel is like an episode of "Black Mirror": a dark and shiny smooth surface, which hides the same touch technology that debuted with the 918 Spyder (and now also have the Panamera, Cayenne and Macan ). When you put the contact and all the lights, screens and commands turn on, you have just confirmed it: you are in 911 of those disturbing futuristic episodes of the British series. 2
