The former Mexican Ambassador to Argentina, Oscar Ricardo Valero Recio Becerra, accused of attempted robbery twice in recent weeks, has spent very difficult days since his return to the country, which led to his resignation from the Foreign Ministry for health reasons .

“He arrived in Mexico without being able to speak well, dragging one leg and not remembering things. It was like a zombie, ”said Florenciaencia Valero, the daughter of the former Ambassador, in an interview with Infobae Mexico.

The resignation of Valero, 77, was confirmed this Sunday by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Roberto Velasco Álvarez. “Marcelo Ebrard has accepted the resignation of Ambassador Ricardo Valero for health reasons. Mr. Valero will continue his treatment with the support of his family. The SRE wishes you a speedy recovery, ”he said.

For his part, Ebrard said that Ambassador Valero "is a great person" and that "he is subject to neurological treatment", in addition to wishing him "a speedy recovery."

“Since my father returned to Mexico, he has been taking exams. The final diagnosis is given in a week by exams, ”explained Florencia Valero. "You have to see what medications you will need, and what care," he added.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry made this announcement a few hours after Infobae announced an alleged attempted robbery at a Duty Free location at Ezeiza International Airport that occurred a couple of weeks ago.

According to the press of the South American country, which confirmed the incident through judicial sources, it was on December 10 when Valero wanted to take without paying one of the garments offered in the trade, just before boarding the flight to Mexico City after being called by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador for a prior complaint of a fact that occurred in a bookstore.

“The political lynching affected him a lot. Blocked it. In fact, Ezeiza narrated it as if someone from the bookstore were chasing him, it is the beginning of a senile dementia. We are devastated ”; stressed.

“I had been in shock for a couple of days (when the incident occurred in Ezeiza). We continue with the studies to have a very precise diagnosis. My dad went to Argentina and someone very different returned, ”concluded Florenciaencia Valero.

The former Ambassador left Buenos Aires after the episode where he was shown through a security video while trying to steal a book from an iconic Buenos Aires bookstore. The incident occurred on October 26, on the eve of the presidential elections in the Latin American country.

The video shows the moment when the Mexican ambassador takes a book and hides it in a newspaper. The recording also shows a later moment in which the man shows to the bookstore guards payment receipts for other items that did pass through the boxes of the establishment. However, that merchandise did not correspond to the book he had tried to subtract: the biography of Giacomo Casanova, by Guy Chaussinand-Nogaret, valued at less than $ 10.

In spite of Valero's diplomatic status, those responsible for the bookstore reported the theft. Thus, the minutes were lifted and a process against him began. Three days later, on October 29, the judicial file, with the statements of the intervening officers and the employees of the bookstore, was sent to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, as ordered by local law.
