AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT, a graphics card for the mid-low range

AMD has just introduced its new Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card model. The new model is intended to compete with the NVIDIA input range, with its GeForce GTX 1650 and GTX 1650 SUPER models. Which are the ones that are dominating the market entry range right now. And thanks to the attractive price with which they will be released, we believe that they will be able to do so fully.

AMD Radeon wants to position its new Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card, as the natural substitute for the old Radeon RX 480. Therefore, it is clear that the company is looking at the mid-range of graphics cards. And a model of this range should be able to move games with ease at 1080p resolution. Which means that, currently, it should have a performance quite similar to the current Radeon RX 580.

The specifications of the new AMD Radeon RX 550 XT graphics card are as follows:

These specifications are practically identical to those of the AMD Radeon RX 5500 that had already been submitted just over a month ago. Where they vary is in the game frequency, which rises from 1670 MHz to 1717 MHz. Although the Boost frequency between both models is maintained. Interestingly, it is the consumption that descends, from 150 W of the OEM model, to 130 W of the new Radeon RX 5500 XT.

As we have already mentioned, AMD Radeon wants to position this new graphics card model, as the direct competition to the NVIDIA input models. This means competing against the GeForce GTX 1650 and GTX 1650 SUPER. And it seems that, at least for the figures provided by this brand, the new AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT would be able to do it without any problem.

From what you can see in the graphs (which, you know you always have to take with a healthy dose of skepticism). The new RX 5500 XT 4GB are more than capable of beating the NVIDIA model. And by quite wide margins in some games. Like 15% of Gears 5, 20% of Battlefield 5. Or, even the 30% difference you get in the game World War Z. These performance differences in some games would put them in competition with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 rather .

As you have seen previously, there will be two models of these new RX 5500 XT: one with 4 GB of GDDR6, the other with 8 GB of GDDR6. In both cases the frequency of the VRAM will be the same: 14 GBPS.

If we consider that this is being achieved with a 128-bit memory bus, it is clear that AMD Radeon have worked hard to optimize the texture load in the graphics VRAM.
